Just recently restarted the campaign after 10 years. Man this game is so underrated!

Imagining what a modern version of this game would be like makes me sad as the modern FPS genre, with only a few exceptions, has deteriorated so much in the past decade it would probably never be made

Quake 4 absolutely nails the atmosphere of feeling like you are a single soldier in a large war. The gunplay is tight, the weapons varied and fun, the enemies are mobile and challenging. You spend a significant portion of the game with AI soldiers which certainly on the hardest difficulty I find very useful. Overall, the campaign is well up in my top10 all time FPS list. Very very fun and highly recommended. Bring back the linear story driven FPS campaigns!

Overall, I would definitely recommend this game, it is the definitive versions of these classic games.

There is much in this remaster I love.

The graphics are fantastic. The audio is absolutely top notch and the level of choice you have over it is brilliant- you can create your own custom play list and include the old, remastered and "bonus" editions of the classic tunes. The ability to choose between legacy and more modern RTS controls is another great addition - ofcourse I stuck with the legacy. The UI and the ability to choose all the maps including the expansion and console additions is great. The cutscenes look great remastered, Kane is as charismatic as ever.

There are a few disappointments though. The hard mode is tough and the issues with the AI and pathfinding are exaggerated here as they need to be responsive. This leads to signficant frustration. Harvesters remain as brain dead as ever. I wish these issues could have been addressed and they could have had a modern and legacy AI toggle. This would have made this game perfect.

Very disappointing game.

It had potential to be great but unfortunately I sense designing this game for consoles ruined it.

My biggest gripe is how the weapons are managed. They give you a decent range of weapons but restrict you to only 3....one of which has to be a pretty underwheling assault rifle which I ended up using most of the time as ammo for the other weapons are so scarce on the higher difficulties. You can purchase ammo however I tried to avoid that to save my points for additional "charge" secondary fire functions, which each weapon has in limited supply. The result was the majority of the weapons I did not end up using and you are generally not able to switch the weapons easily in battle on the fly.

The skillshot system backfires as you end up focusing on trying to get extra points killing enemies in a certain way which usually isnt very fun and gets stale fast.

With a bit of tweaks the combat system could have been great. The leash and the kick are fun to use but unfortunately your movement is poor and the level design is extremely restrictive and linear to a fault.

Story is forgettable with rather annoying excessively macho characters though it can be quite funny at times. Performance on my gtx 970 sli was generally good though the later levels the framerate got extremely variable, hindering the gameplay significantly.

I got this game at a heavily discounted price which I would recommend at however certainly not at their standard price.

Very disappointing game. Younger naive me, reading all the glowing critic reviews, came into this "game" expecting a masterpiece. It is anything but. No gameplay, uninteresting story, uninteresting house. Just boring, I had to struggle to finish it. Clearly the critic reviews are motivated by political ideology. Go play Dear Esther if you want a similar but far more interesting and immersive game of this genre.

I absolutely loved the original, a great little arcade game with fantastic gameplay and an amazing soundtrack. Super Bit Blaster XL is similar however adds a number of interesting new gameplay mechanics. I initially had issues with the new control scheme which, while I am sure will be the preferred option for newcomers, was incompatible with my muscle memory from the older game. The developer was great and swiftly added a classic control mode to the beta version which works great.

To you out there who have not played the original game, the essential goal of this game is to survive as long as you can against an ever increasing wave of asteroids, ships and black holes. You can collect power ups which are basically a range of more powerful weapons. These ranges from triple shot, to a short powerful laser, to a bouncy bullet. You can also collect coins which allow you to unlock better ships, as well as extra lives and screen clearing bombs.

This new version brings with it improved graphics and new enemies including a challenging boss type enemy which will appear if you are doing well. The familiar ships from the last version have some upgrades including single and even double shields as well as less predictable firing patterns making them much more challenging. Enemies also come in from all 4 sides and ammo appears to run out quicker.

Overall both versions of this game are great and are my go to time waster if I have a few minutes. This is certainly the more challenging version and I look forward to trying to get top of the leaderboard!

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game having played it for the first time in 2019. I 'm sure my opinion would be different had I played it when it initially came out and I had the time to run mindlessly through maze like levels looking for ill defined objectives to allow me to progress.

The graphics look ok upscaled to a high resolution and certainly shouldnt prevent you from playing this game, and the sound design is good apart from the excessively loud music that makes the rather crude video messages you receive difficult to hear.

My biggest cripe with this game is the maze like layouts of the maps. I gave up playing the marine campaign on the third mission as I had to track down a number of valves placed seamingly at random throughout the level. There are no clear environmental clues or in world direction to this valves. It is literally a case of running through very similar looking corridors , while being attacked by respawning aliens, until you stumble upon the objectives.

I'm definitely not a fan of hand holding call of duty or bioshock objective arrow type games but this is much too far in the opposite direction and ruins a game I would otherwise have enjoyed.

One of the most disappointing games I have ever played. This was one of the games I was jealous of console owners, I brought the game at full price expecting a masterpiece but instead got a fairly generic and quite frankly boring 3rd person shooter. The guns feel weak, the gameplay and story are monotonus and its just not that fun. Had to force myself to complete it unfortunately.

Love this one. Very simple controls but challenging gameplay and nice music.

Mod of the highest quality! Reminds me why I love Half life so much and emulates my favorite parts of the game. Encourages exploration and resourcefulness in the face of a challenging and varied enemy assortment. Loved relying on the gravity gun. Would fit right into a main half life game and be a very enjoyable section at that! Looking forward to the next section
