I am 33 yo and never finished half life despite having it when it came out. I always got fed up in office complex but I heard that they redesigned office complex for black mesa and I thought I would spend a day to complete the game. Well I have given up in unforeseen consequences lol. Half life is just a really boring game. Shooters are fun because you shoot things and you don't shoot anything in half life.

Half life is a lot more modern than doom, quake or duke 3d but nowhere near as fun as any of them and it never was. I hoped that black mesa would have improved the game but actually it throws a lot more monsters at you before giving you a crowbar than the original half life and I got stuck in a corridor before I even went down the lift with all the headcrabs flying past you.

I completed half life 2 at release (which is good because I only had dial up and steam sucked lol) but I don't think I will ever finish half life.

The game never shuts the ♥♥♥♥ up, all I want to do is pick up a supply cache but I have to play about 5 missions before it will actually let me do what I want to do and I have to hear about 10000 lines of dialogue on the way. I haven't even got to build anything in the base yet. Just stop interrupting me and forcing me to listen about some ♥♥♥♥ I don't knows dead dad.

The game overall is OK, it is a grind but I like the presentation.

This review is for the latest patch, released 28 MAY 2020. The performance drop is absurd it chugs every time you move a square in a corridor and every time the AI has a turn in the fights. It has also added a town event that you can't use unless you buy the latest paid DLC but triggers even if you don't have the DLC installed. Very dirty monetisation.

If this was the state of the game during my refund period I would have gotten a refund.

Find yourself a nice "discounted" old version until the game is fixed. Probably one prior to any of the DLCs being released.

Not sure if I will get in trouble saying so here, but you can put the key of the game bought on steam into origin and download it through there too. :P

Overall I think BB2 is a big improvement on BB1.

I think the pros and cons of the game are covered in all the recent reviews except for 1 point.

The only step backwards is that in BB1 you could have the skills displayed in words during a block wheras in BB2 they are displayed only as icons. Not too bad for your own guys but when you only have a few seconds to decide which dice to choose against someone with 2 rows of skills it is not intuitive enough. I assume it makes translation cheaper? I personally would prefer words.

Now I have a high value team I notice even more stupid behaviour from the AI though. Why does it not spend all its petty cash and why does it always want more than 8 re-rolls per half?
