But because of this, the game will give you a genuine feeling of accomplishment. Not the empty type of sticker achievements you get from most games, but a sense that you truly overcame tremendous odds and persisted through a seemingly impossible challenge.

While exploring it's dark and treacherous dungeons, the feeling of loneliness, dread and despair penetrates your mind. When the cost of failure is so high, and the odds are stacked against you, it's hard not to succumb to fear and lose your concentration. Dark Souls rewards a steady hand and quick thinking, pragmatism and forethought. It'll test your reflexes and your determination.

It's a masterpiece of modern gaming that couldn't be further from modern gaming.
