Everhood is a game full of interesting ideas that sadly never really materialize or are fully explored enough to be satisfying. The games story is somewhat lacking and it very clearly exists to be a counterpoint to another popular indie darling but fails to carry any of the charm or weight of its opposite.

It also very very very much does not know how, or when to end. There were like 4-5 times the game literally goes "This is it! Lets end this right!" and then continues on to the next instance of that. It just meanders as a game and as an ending seems like they wanted to cram every trope they could fit despite it already clearly overflowing out of its seems.

What could have been a really good remaster/remake of an SNES classic is instead marred by an attempt to expand the games runtime by inserting a bunch completely annoying and unfun tower defense sections between story quests. The result IS a longer game.. but one that I ended up really having a hard time picking back up as each chapter only makes the sections less and less tolerable.

Do you like factorio but wish it kept you on your toes more, constantly having to run around trying to find new sources of resources to replace the dwindling ones you have back at home and dealing with a spherical planet with shifting gridlines instead of one flat giant perfectly spaced out world?

Well dyson sphere program is for you!
Just.. don't ever expect to be able to sit around on your rear for the first few days of playing because until you get deep into the tech tree your pretty much always going to have to be tearing down, rebuilding, moving, and improving your factory. Your going to have to content with RNG giving you planets in your local system that have really crap power generatior capabilities or lacking vital resources. Your going to have to expand, contract, and expand again. All in pursuit of the moment you finally have enough of everything to start consuming the universe for its resources.

Look its.. not really worth playing. 20 minutes of extremely easy puzzles with zero portals to be seen and really poorly thought out controls. Like who makes a VR game without a turning mechanic? You just assume everyone has full room tracking and can have their controllers seen with their body fully turned?

Anyways yeah its just.. not worth it.

Avengers isn't a bad game. It's just not.. a good one.

The combat is kinda dull and lifeless with unexciting loot. The campaign saddles you with mostly playing as a character that doesn't really have that exciting of powers? Especially not next to like Thor or Ironman.

The story.. feels off? Like, first off it feels like this game is trying to put itself in the MCU with some of the refrences and characterizations but also It's impossible to get past that nobody looks like their MCU version and the characters all act a little questionably. Like the main character is a fan fic writer who is a big fan of super heros but when she gets mutant powers all she does is kinda bemoan that shes a freak now when it seems like if anything she would have been at the forefront of the resistance long ago.

Everything is just either kinda off, kind of weird, or bland bland bland. You spend a lot more time running around punching robots than anything else.

Having sunk 11 hours into it my take away with this game is that Littlewood isnt' a bad game persay but it is a game with more fat on its bones than meat. About everything you need to do in the game leaves you at the mercy of rng with an energy system that feels stilfing at most times. You'll spend more time grinding out the same resources again and again and again than doing anything else and the town building segment is more or less.. I mean its there, but it never really feels that deep.

You get people who want to live in your town, you grind out enough mats to build their house, you get a blueprint from them that you grind the mats out for and build... eventually like halfway through the game you get the desk blueprint letting you see what they want in their home and then you fight rng both in the marketplace as well in the resource gathering dungeons so that you can finally fill out a page of their requests and get a blueprint for some quality of life ability that feels like should have been gated some other way. Rinse, repeat, until you get bored.

While its not BAD... when you compare it to other similar titles it feels very light on the content and heavy on the grind (or the fat). It's just hard to recommend it when most the time you will spend with the game is dealing with the arbitrary gating the game puts in front of you to extend its playtime.

Every few years I come back to shovel knight going "man why didn't i ever finish this game? Its so famous in its genre!" and every few years I play for like an hour and remember why. Because its not a difficult platformer, its just a very rubberross-ian troll platformer where you learn a little, die, and repeat. Some people find that fun. I can't say it seems like very good game design.

*sighs* okay I originally wrote out this long ass review for the game breaking down its various parts and the state of incompletion but apparently some genius at Valve decided that if you change the rating at the top of the review window it should entirely clear out what you've typed.

So here is the short version of the 5 parts of the game

1. Space combat. Doesn't really evolve at all. Minor upgrades and can switch specials, different faciton fights all feel the same.

2. Ground combat. Sucks. Sucks and is annoying.

3. Sex scenes. Unlock more scenes by using the girls in combat, find out anything not labeled premium is just a short animation loop and the ones labeled premium are still overly simplistic only they have a climax button to end the animation.

4. Dialog. Full of really bad sex puns and refrences. Tries to make this okay by lampshading that its bad. Does not succeed.

5. Unfinished features. Game says you just unlocked something. Might actually be true, might actually not be. You find out when you excitedly go to check but then find out its just missing or labeled coming soon.

Conclusion. The girls are hot, but the gamepaly is a let down and the sex is an even bigger letdown when you've seen what this studio has put out in the past. I can't really say that right now at the time of writing that this game is a good purchase. Maybe someday it will be. Maybe not. Only time will tell. But right now your paying for something that your only hoping will become worth it.

Look I'll be honest. Is this a perfect game? No. It's a bit buggy in places, its got a bit of jank to it, some of the game puzzle logic is straight out of the old point and click adventure games where you had to dig into a guide somewhere to figure out what the answer was only to find out the person who wrote the guide isn't sure how they figured out the answer either, it somewhat looks like it could have come out in 2000. Its.. its not exactly a AAA title.

But you can tell the developers were trying. You can tell they had a solid idea along with a story they really wanted to tell and they did their best to try and deliver their first game. It has a charm where you can tell that even if in the end it isn't the hight of spookiness they really worked a lot on the atmosphere and trying to tell a complicated and interesting tale just using journals and bits of information like you would find in a From Software title. And that's why I'm giving it a recommend. Because unlike a ton of titles I've played where it was clear someone was just trying to make a quick buck or trick someone out of some of their wallet I can tell the developers really were trying and actually do have some good ideas and talent there under the jank. I truly hope that they continue to try and refine things more in the sequel.

And yes. The main character has some big assets. There are a lot of characters in the early bits that clearly are endowed in abundance. The game doesn't really lean into this at all, its just an asethetical choice and honestly kind of a refreshing one given how.... boring designs have gotten in the current "everything must be realistic and appeal to everyone" design by committee world that gaming has become.

It's a beautiful game but it is soooooo slooooooooooow. Nothing bores and distracts the mind faster than a couple sentaces taking a few minutes to come out because they are all in a slow subtitled wisper that you have to watch fade in and fade out of the screen. That's fine for the odd cutscene or too but its all dialog in the game.

Combat is also stilted. Extremely so. It's so boring too. Pick up box, hit enemy with it, melee enemy with a limited use melee weapon. Keep picking up weapons which require charging to actually use, then repeat. Its so dull and so boring.

I was really interested in this game because of its art style and the concept but my god an hour in and I was litereally bored to tears with absolutely no idea how far into the experience I actually was. Is this a 2 hour game? Is it a 20? I have nothing to measure progress by.

It just self sabotages itself by making everything drawn out and boring. I know there is this theory that friction is good in a game but this game is just all friction.
