They were able to dramatically improve the visuals without changing the vibe of the game.
The new chapter is fantastic and I love the mob onslaught. The game reminds me of Doom.

Beautiful graphics and the engine is seamless. The critters are well animated and the A.I. is very good, almost too good. Unfortunately the game is a colorful and violent version of Super Mario Bros. Instead of concentrating on my weapons and blowing away demons, I'm a jumping monkey concentrating on wall jumps and bounce timing. Doom a platformer? No thanks and that's coming from someone who has played every iD Software title including the original Doom I bought in a plastic ziplock bag back in '93,

It straight up sucks.

It's Borderlands 2 with better visuals and new weapons and many of the old classics. A must buy if your a fan of the franchise. Plus half price makes it a no brainer!

Early Access Review
It's a prettier version of Quake III Arena which is just fine I guess. The problem however is that I played the hell out of the original so this experience was interesting for an hour and then I eventually stopped playing. I own every software title ever made by id Software and I'll probably spring for the full game when its released. I really would have loved to have seen a SP game with the original Quake in mind. I kind of feel like I've been down this road before with the original, Quake Live, and now this. I remember fans were let down by the lack of a SP game when Arena came out and it seems id has bailed on that concept entirely. It's too bad with the huge success of Wolfenstein and the new Doom.

Nothing new to see here really. If you are new to the Quake universe then by all means buy this title. If you are like me and you think this is some kind of reboot worth buying, probably not. If it has full bot capability it could be fun to screw around with.

This game I bought on a whim and I must say it was a total sleeper surprise. I'm only around 10% in but from what I have experienced thus far, it's been a complete blast. I hated Far Cry 3 (and I played the hell out of the original and 2) but I'm loving this so make of that what you will. It has a Minecraft vibe to it with the graphics and violence of a AAA shooter, just no automatic weapons. The use of skins and plants which seemed stupid in FC3 makes absolute sense in this game.

It's just a ton of fun, especially being able to tame one of the apex predators like the Sabertooth Lion. Sneaking up on a group of Neanderthals (you're arch enemy in the game) with a big cat and clubbing the hell out of their domes is beyond ridiculous fun. It's a cool open world game with fantastic graphics and gameplay. Buy it, the end . . .

Well it seems for those who can play the game it might even be better than the original. However I couldn't even get the game to launch with a 6-core i7, 16gb, and two GTX 780ti's in sli. I had no issues with FO4 and Doom in maxed settings at 2560x1600, both Bethesda games. I ended up returning the title with no idea how long a "day one" patch would be made available.

Too bad as I really enjoyed the original. If they get the bugs worked out I will gladly purchase the game down the road. But in its current state I cannot recommed this title for PC users.

It's from a kid more or less who hasn't even started college and the game reflects that. Millenials will probably enjoy the introspection and self absorbtion. It's the equivalent of a college art project and the price of admission to this snowflake carousel is just right.

But for a high school student I have to say that putting this together and getting it on Steam is quite an achievement. So good luck to Mr. Harmon and his future endeavors. He's off to a good start.

I loved this game as a kid. I'd be given five bucks in quarters and I'd go nuts with this Bandai jewel. Left, right, and the spacebar. It doesn't get more simple than that and I just Alt-Enter to go full screen and back. Why don't they release more of these classics without having to use some emulator? Defender? Battlezone? All of them!!

Nostalgic fun.
