A really great single-player shooter, with strong gunplay and level design. Not at all like many of the arcade-style boomer shooters, this is rather a strongly atmospheric, exploration-driven affair. More Half-Life than Doom, in a way I really wish modern shooters would strive towards.

A great co-op game, with a satisying core-gameplay loop and meaty, first-person melee combat. Like Left 4 Dead, run numerous maps with a group of 4 whilst fighting off enemies spawned dynamically by an AI director (who is a gigantic ♥♥♥♥), whilst also having a relatively varied RPG build and level system. More fun with friends, obviously; although totally viable solo, the real potential unlocks with smart teamplay.

The reward and crafting system still a need a bit of balancing, and the RNG pain can be real, but this is softened by the lack of microtransactions, so you never feel that the rewards are being used to push for more real-world money expenditure. The only truly egregious fault is the lack of any in-game stats for either your character or your weapons, which is a baffling design choice that deprives players of much-needed information.

Overall, a great co-op game with a lot of depth to its combat system and a punishing, yet rewarding, difficulty curve. For its very reasonable price, without any microtransactions to boot, a highly recommended purchase.
