It's a classic that has aged like fine wine, and it's completely free. Thanks to the active community it has even receive many quality-of-life updates over the years.

A game wholly centered around exploration. See the weird planets of your solar system, discover the mysteries behind a long lost civilization and marvel at the secrets of the universe. You can fly around and discover things at your own pace and any place you go drives the narrative forward. This game does not hold your hand though. You (and not the game) decide where to go next, and you have to remember all the paths and clues yourself in order to figure out puzzles and move the plot forward.

+ The core gameplay. With roaming around the countryside and doing platform puzzles you have a primary gameplay loop that is fun and engaging.
+ The more typical 3D levels are polished, play well and are fun.
+ The music, though it's an odd combination. The titan bosses are themed to death metal (which is quite funny imo), while the Cyber Space level's music often sounds like it comes straight out of Nature One.
+ The story. It's pretty decent and will appeal to Sci-Fi lovers as it feels like it is right at home in a game of Stellaris.

You can see it gets the important bits right, while the negatives are more nitpicky. Some of these surprise me that these haven't been addressed prior to release:

- The pop-in. It's pretty bad even with all settings maxed out. With so many graphics options it's weird that they didn't include an option to increase the draw distance.
- The (secret) final boss. Without spoiling anything, having this entire concept as final "epic" boss in a Sonic game is idiotic.
- The vendors, one in particular. Why didn't they include a button to hand in all critters in one go???
- The second titan has so many visual effects happening at once that it becomes really hard to see which you are supposed to parry.

All-in-all: 8/10

Much improved compared to its predecessor. Your citizens no longer get stuck in the dock for no reason causing your entire economy to collapse. The missions are quite challenging and varied, meaning there is a ton of content to keep you interested.

One issue I have is with the new soil-fertility mechanic. If you do the intuitive thing of min-maxing where you build one manure distributor in the middle to serve a whole bunch of plantations the soil fertility still goes to ♥♥♥♥ (pun intended). The game is really bad at communicating to the player what he/she is doing wrong, so there is no alarm or symbol telling the player that the efficiency of all plantations has sunken down to 0% and the player is about to run out of money.

Excellent gameplay and quite addicting. You can easily play dozens of hours and barely notice.

Civilization in space where about everything can happen that you've ever read in popular science fiction.

Highly challenging platformer for the kind of person who thinks that Mario is child's play and would much rather see the world entirely covered in spikes. Beating each difficult platforming challenge is extremely rewarding.

Escapism at its finest, it doesn't matter if you only have 30 minutes of time in a day, the silly lighthearted Takeshi's-Castle formula is a blast and will lighten up your day.

How an epic game like this came from a Kickstarter project and a game-jam idea is nothing short of a miracle. The gameplay is sharp, the art lovingly hand-drawn, the world big and wondrous.

+ Refined platforming and combat
+ Exploring world full of mysteries
+ Story, which gets more messed up the more you dig
+ Game length, great value for money
+/- Difficulty, there are some really difficult bosses in here which might not be everyone's cup of tea
