Maybe it's been too long since I played the first game, but my word. The most exciting thing I find about this game is finding anomaly artefacts with the original scanner you start off with.

There is no point in engaging in random enemies in the world because chances are you're going to spend more ammo and medical items trying to win a pointless engagement. You can just run away from these non-story line based encounters.

Mutants are pretty bullet spongy, okay. It take 4-8 shotgun shells to take down a blood sucker. Those are those invisible guys that ambush you. You will find yourself deciding whether to heal or to reload your gun. I don't recall them being so bullet spongy in the first game. They were very lethal yes, but you didn't need to unload as much ammo into them. The shotgun is the strongest gun type you can get in the game, and it feels so weak. I'm not even playing the game on veteran difficulty. It's just normal difficulty.

The character's motivation for being in the zone makes no sense. An artefact wrecked his home. Okay. But then your scanner gets stolen and you go on this long quest chain to get it back and right now I am in the third area and they still haven't explained what's going on in the zone. There's no hint if the zone is expanding or not. Why was that artefact in this guy's home?

Humans are the easiest thing to kill in the game with a head shot from any gun, if you try stealthing they will see you. It's silly that using your bolt won't distract unaware npcs of your presence. If a human npc sees you, everyone knows where you are. You have to quick save the game often or else you can waste minutes of your life to get back to where you were.

The only thing they kept in this game is bread, sausage, alcohol artefacts and emissions. Those are the only things that resemble the first game.

Well, I love most of the mechanics for this game. Since I have asthma, I can relate to the big what if scenario of an extinction level disaster and how would I survive. Two things I can't get behind is how the slightest physical activity puts our protagonist into asthma attack territory each time. Whether it's lifting up something or pulling herself up.

The other thing I can't get behind is WHY is there a limit on the amount of inhalers you can carry? Excuse me, if I was trying to avoid the death angels, I would be pocketing every inhaler I came across. It's a bit silly since all you need is one physical inhaler and you can just take the small canisters out of them to reduce space used up on your person.

Also, pills are used to calm yourself down from having an asthma attack in this game. Something that I have never heard of personally, but okay. I know coffee will help calm you down impending asthma attacks irl. Not a pill medication though.

Anyway, it's a fun game. I like the fact that I can enable my microphone for the added difficulty. It was pretty cliche as I was in the last stretch of the hospital that my phone alarm went off and had to mad dash towards the exit.

This is a hidden gem of a game. Learn the mechanics, build your team. Slap your friends and family members down as the squad characters and don't lose them. Soldiers are not easily obtained.

You can expect to lead 2 teams into a mission, there is no shame in extracting, pulling back and bringing a fresh squad in. Just keep in mind that everyone is on the clock here. They say you get 3 days per mission to complete the game. Every 5 or 7 days the passive threat level increases as the planet goes to hell.

I like the game, I just miss it being about society. In the first game you could follow the lives of the people in your city.

It's an all right game to get lost in and do side missions rather than progress the main story any time soon.

The problems I have with this game are listed below.

The other issue is that melee is terrible in this game. I am around level 27, and I cannot find anything beyond an emergency axe, a bowie knife, a ripper knife or a cutlass and their DPS is TERRIBLE. I found a legendary gun and then another legendary gun for the last 15 levels and I have no points put into their weapon category. What I do have is two points into duelling.

I haven't found a better melee weapon than the one I have which can sometimes afflict an enemy with a DoT. There is no respec allowed in the base game, so I have to wait for a mod to come out to get those two perk points back - oh wait I can't because I am a chef.

Food is useless in this game, weighs too much to be beneficial. You can find alcohol and drugs that give you buffs in the world so I don't see any benefit to investing in one of my starter perks. Again, started as a chef.

If you want to play as a non lethal character, you can't. You don't get any EXP from rendering enemies incapacitated with the stun guns, nor can you loot them like you normally would a dead enemy. What you CAN do is pick pocket them if you invest in pick pocketing...

Ship design is kinda useless IMO... I am still investing in it because I want to make my own, but once you attach an EM weapon to your ship, you can disable a stronger enemy ship and board them, kill the enemies inside and pilot the ship. Take it to The Den and you can register the ship and boom. You have a stronger ship.

Credits... okay, I honestly have no use for credits in this game. I took the child things background, the one with the parents? They take 500 credits every so often, which is nothing. Literally you selling a weapon after a mission. You get so many credits, that you won't be struggling. It's not like you need to save up for a really impressive stronger vessel since boarding and taking over hostile ships is more convenient. You don't pay for space fuel, restocking ammo, you can pay 1k for ship repairs, again this is nothing, and when you engage in space combat you are likely to find ship parts which are med kits for your ship.

Your companions are very good aligned, you can't take them with you anywhere if you want to invest in improving your friendship with them. There's the annoying robot that offers nothing of character substance and I heard one other that you can take with you to cause havoc.

Companions and crew do not level up. I wish they did, I would like to take a single talent crew member and through time, space fights and taking them on adventures planet side they would level up and go their own way or have control over what they put points into.

Of course lastly, pronouns. This is a waste of megabyte. No one refers to you by them in this game. It's sad someone got paid to put this in the game.

It seems like a fun game if you like the soul series. I don't get why PVP is locked behind completing two chapters, and what's worse is that the PVP isn't even worth it. There's nothing special about it, most people are running around with treads and miniguns on each arm.

You don't win anything or get tokens to buy anything through competing in the online pvp. It's just buy the meta from the money you make in the PVE, and go to town in PVP.

**Update**

I just defeated the ice worm, if you are looking for a game with a story that will pull you into the world and make you feel for any of these characters, you better look else where. This game has me feeling as unattached as these pilots in these ACs feel after their augmentation surgery.

Ace Combat was able to make you feel for the characters in their game, built up a rivalry between you and the opposing squadron. This game... this game is just terribly written. No one gets invested in beyond your handler and the parasite that you find yourself with eating away at your grey matter.

Also, there is no refresh button on NEST. This means if you try joining a game and you get a notice you cannot join the game either due to rotating maps or the lobby is full, you need to back out of NEST and do another search for the game types you want. It's 2023 and this game feels like it's stuck in the first days of the online console era.
