"Caring" about your base is highly subjective and likely has more to do with the player than the game. I had less bases in Enshrouded than I did in Valheim, yet I didn't care any more for Valheim bases than I did for the ones in Enshrouded and vice versa. They are simply a relatively safe means to collect and craft with loot and resources.
The sandbox nature of both games is really no different. The player is in control of where they settle in any given biome other than the unbuildable areas around POIs. In addition, the player still has to hit up the bosses and the biomes for their loot and resources as part of progression. Generally speaking biome progression is largely gated by item requirements or enemy/boss difficulty.
In Enshrouded, you are far less likely to care about your base in favour of the quest-based level-grinding exploration to very specific locations.
Valheim's exploration is mostly just, where's the ore, where's the boss summon location, boat the ore back. It's much more sandbox than Enshrouded.
