TLDR: Awesome Game, Awesome Story, but it takes a bit to learn the systems and get started. The game play loop is very fun and rewarding and as you get better you feel Godlike!

I tried to write this for a person who may know little about Warframe or its systems or maybe a person who dabbled with it over the last 5-6 years and never thought to come back and try it again.

I first tried playing Warframe in 2015 I believe and jumped in and out between 2015-2019. I just came back recently after feeling like trying again and I believe this game is in its BEST spot currently! There have been some huge quality of life changes that have happened to make it easier and more accessable.

I have a soft spot for looter type games like Destiny, Diablo, Revenant, etc, but especially love anything that seems endless like Warframe.

The things I love about Warframe:

- The story is amazing, but it comes out of nowhere and requires you to put in a decent amount of playtime to start unpacking the story line.

- They have a store, but everything can be earned in game but you have the option to purchase many items for real $ and once you are mid tier you can start acquiring valuable items that can be sold for the paid currency. The important part is that no one ever needs to spend money because anything (short of some cosmetics) can be acquired in game. I have spent money in this game and there are some benefits to making a few purchases shortly after starting. I would not classify this game as PTW, but definitely some element of pay to immediately acquire something and this can be very beneficial, but not required in the early game. I would say it's almost unnecessary in the late game.

There were elements of this game in the past, especially story progression that were locked behind a system called Mastery Rank and to get rank you needed to level up a variety of warframes, weapons etc. They have since removed this requirement for progression and I believe this is a huge quality of life change, especially for new players.

- The original Soundtrack and sound score is amazing if you like music, especially story cut scenes

- There is always something to do, but you're left to decide what you want to do or work on. Progress the "campaign" get reputation with certain factions to obtain items/weapons, grind for special prime variant warframes and weapons, etc.

- There is huge amounts of customization cosmetically and technically. You can modify you weapons with special cards call mods. It almost reminds me of Magic the Gathering! These mods can be leveled up to max level and mixed and matched to create some pretty cool builds. This can get pretty technical and too much to go into on a steam review, but a cool system and it is awesome when you acquire a much needed mods to flesh out your build.

A word of warning:

Clearly I could sit here and think of a list of things I do not like about any game. I am not going to nit pick the game though. The only thing I am going to say here is that the game does take time. It probably takes 75-100 hours before you even progress to one of the main story arcs called "The Second Dream" and lilely 200 hours to even feel like you know what you're doing. By 500 hours you probably have a decent grasp on the game and understand the systems.

None of the systems are uber complex, there's just a lot of systems and things to learn. It has been streamlined since the earlier days, but it is a learning curve none the less.

If you have a void in your game library for a grindy looter shooter than this is the only one you need! The value for dollar is amazing considering the game is free to play. If you've played Destiny or Remnant and never tried Warframe I would strongly recommend it.

First, I would like to start off by saying as a boomer when I hear a game is Soul like it is usually code for me to skip the game. I have tried Dark souls, Elden Ring and many others only to find that it isn't a game play loop I typically enjoy. I have even tried Remnant 1 in 2019 and it didn't gel with me.

I decided to take a risk on Remnant 2 and while I only am 18 hours in at the time of this review think it is an AMAZING game. It does have souls elements but without the annoyance of souls games. It has a fun exploring and shooting game play loop and I keep find myself coming back to play day after day. It is also good fun co-op!

I haven't played since Year 1 and came back for Lightfall. Lots of changes, mostly good IMO. I have been playing and enjoying my time. Shoot and Loot loop still feels like it used to. Gun play is good and story is OK.
