This is one of those games you buy and play, recommend to others (mostly out of sadism) and play a few matches with them.... but they never really get into it. There's a reason for that: It's a lousy game. Most of these 'hardcore' WWII games are extremely similar. All the way back to the original Red Orchestra they've been haunted by the same issues: poor character model env interaction and movement, unbalanced maps, and confusing presentation of essential game elements. Most matches in HLL just go uber lopsided and you either participate in a steam-roll or get killed 100x in a match. Want to play armor? Your commander is an 11 year old boy from Indianapolis. You'll have to negotiate with him to spawn your tank. Want to look thru a window in a building and fire your weapon thru it? It works about 30% of the time. Blow up buildings? Shoot thru walls? Walk away from a deployed MG? What do you think this is 2055? In its defense: Maps look really great. Env audio and sound is pretty good. There are worse games out there. Just frustrating that after 25 years of games like this all they've added is RTS mechanics and the underlying game has not gotten any better. 6/10

Decent game. Waaaay overpriced. There's not enough maps and content to merit the asking price of this title. It should be a 4.99 or 9.99 game.

A mediocre, unpolished game with a core of diehard supporters/apologist. Squad is a dizzyingly unfocused game that depends really strongly on teamplay to make things sort-of work. The problem with this game is not so much Joe Public GI and his lack of teamwork, but the choices that were made in designing this game. There are numerous non-linear maps with way too many cap points, so forces become diffuse and engage in small skirmishes that greatly influence the outcome of the match but feel completely arbitary. Maps are also typically too large. This makes for smaller and shorter engagements. Vehicles in combat roles are virtually useless and are quickly destroyed without having much impact on the match. Gameplay mechanics are sub-par with guns poking thru terrain, inexplicably long reload animations and bizarre weapons switching. Medic, my usual go-to class is over-complicated and unrewarding to play. In short, it feels like a very unfinished mod. I recently came back to this game after many months and many updates and it feels no different than it did when I left. Ironically, this game made by a group of modders, may ultimately be improved and fixed by the mod community.

Great game if you feel the CS:GO community is too mature. Insanely terrible hate-rage no-pub-teamwork player base. More headshots than counterstrike. Somewhat enjoyable junkfood gameplay. 4/10. Buy Squad instead.

Pirate this first to see if it works on your PC. Many technical issues.
