It admittedly has some new FPS tendencies but overall I have to recommend the game, it's really good.
Really Good stuff:
The ambience
The weapons, especially the weight they convey
The over the top action
The maps are not streamlined like I would have thought, the level design is really good
The monsters

The so-so:
The upgrades in general are ok but not great and I don't think I would have missed them if not included
So much lore into these games these days, but it's not in your face so that's good
I don't really like that R is used for changing the secondary mode on a weapon, I'm used to reloading and this just makes it weird.
The movement sometimes feels like it could be quicker

Overall really good experience.
