My first review ever and English is not my native language so please bear with me.

Grim Dawn is an awesome arpg that takes place in a fictional world. The game provides fast and smooth gameplay with intriguing lore to uncover. The game looks dark and grim which I found very appealing compared to the cartoony look other games may have. There’s enough diversity in the different area’s to explore. Some areas are looking absolutely gorgeous. Most of the game is hand-crafted with some randomization. There a plenty of different enemies to fight against providing enough verity and challenge. Sometimes you have to prioritize to kill a certain enemy otherwise things may get really tough. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG), which means that an enemy could have an epic weapon or armor equipped that you can see him wearing. So kill him and he will drop that item, however if he might be tougher to fight against as the item can grant them more power than usual.
You can play this game single-player or multi-player with a party up to a max of 4 people.

There are currently 6 classes which are called masteries in the game. They each have their own unique skills. When you reach level 2 you can choose a mastery to start with and at level 10 you can choose a 2nd mastery if you want. This way it provides enough build diversity for your taste. Melee or ranged and a mix of both it’s all up to you to choose. You can use 1 handed weapons and shields, 2 handed weapons, dual wield, pistols, scepters, focus and pets (summons). So you are not bound to a few skills you can choose from. Items like armor, components , relics, etcetera could also grant extra skills to use. And let’s not forget about Devotion, thought out the game you can find Devotion Shrines to restore, which grants you loot and a Devotion point on which you can invest in the Devotion Window providing more stats and skills to customize your build. You can use any item you want just as long as you meet the required stats for it. You can reassign skill- and devotion points but not mastery- and attribute points.

There’s plenty of loot in this game which can be obtained from enemies, chest, bought at a vendor or you can craft items. Blueprints can be found to craft different items at the blacksmith.

I like the faction system on where you have hostile factions with increased negative reputation against them, brings increased enemy spawn additional monster spawns, increased Hero spawns and, upon reaching Nemesis status, Nemesis spawns. With friendly factions, increased reputation unlocks access to the bounty table. There you can do small quest for a gaining faster reputation with that faction and that unlocks more items at the faction vendor.

I love it that certain quest can change the appearance a little bit of a refugee area. Bringing more survivors there and a cosmetic change. There are also quests that brings choice and consequence to your decisions. So the outcome for that quest could influence a small area.

The lore is great for those who are interested in that like me. You can find notes in the game that provide more information about certain events. But also by talking to npc’s and reading the description in the devotion windows.

There’s no magic arrow that points you into the right direction for a quest, only when your nearby you will see a star on the mini map that your close. Personally i think this is a big plus, i love to explore and find the area myself it’s way more immersive.

There are enough options in the game to change the camera angle zoom in and out. You can set the loot filter to only show magic items, so that your screen isn’t cluttered with loot.

Secret areas who doesn’t like them, i always have the urge to explore everything. Some secret areas are small others are larger. You can find them by breaking a wall or perhaps a hidden path to reach it. Explore and you shall be rewarded because there are plenty of secret areas to uncover.

Small things that matter like kicking in doors or at barrels, destructible objects like furniture walls that collapse. Weather changing effect that make the area darker with a bit or rain or just a sunny day. Enemies of different factions fighting each other.

Challenge dungeons that provide a real challenge, where if you die you have to restart the game to start a new session. That means you have to redo the dungeon to get to the end. I play softcore so i won’t lose my character but still have the excitement of trying to survive and not to get killed.

Modding tools are released, so expect the community to create their own content, items, classes and even entire worlds.

The developers are very passionate about the making the game, since the Kickstarter the game has grown bigger and better with more features than they originally planned. There is even a free content update coming out soon!
