Best Alien franchise game since Isolation and probably the best Aliens game since the movie was still showing. That's probably not saying much based on how infrequent and half-hearted some games have been, but as someone who enjoyed ALL the AvP titles, I'm happy to report that Fireteam eclipses them.

I've not enjoyed a multiplayer shooter this much since the early days of pre-Valve Counter-Strike. In fact, until Siege came along, I'd resigned myself to a life of playing World of Tanks (which is effectively CS on mobility scooters).

Oddly I find the 5v5 limitation enforces a sense of quiet good-humoured teamwork in casual matches that I've not experienced in other like-minded games. I'm not sure why that is. Perhaps it's because losing is as much fun as winning. Or maybe I'm not the only mature FPS fan with dull reflexes who's found a new sunshine home.

The only game that you don't actually have to play to enjoy, or even have to enjoy in order to play.

Frankly, you can stick your Team Fortresses, Calls of Duty and pretty much every other shooter released over the last ten years into a big smelly sack and throw it into the river. So long as Shattered Horizon is safe by the fireside with a saucer of milk, I'm happy. I just wish more people felt the same.
