Why is this game a must-have for anybody into non-fantasy "medieval" sandbox games? Ultimately it comes down to its voracious modding community, which is drawn to modding the game due to the extremely powerful and open C# API with which Taleworlds powers all game logic. It's only been a few weeks since Early Access release, and there are thousands of mods on Nexus (albeit, many fix or somehow address issues that ought eventually be part of the official game). For now, I don't recommend playing without at least the Community Patch, although that may not be such a hard requirement in the future.

Bannerlord is a beautiful game with the most sophisticated medieval combat, battle, and siege simulator that exists. Battles and sieges also feature tactical control over extremely large armies, something at which the AI is surprisingly competent in addition to being expert-competent at personal combat).

It is also a mild RPG, although current vanilla quest content is so repetitive and shallow that it I simply refuse to ever do quests, something for which you are in no way penalized. The true potential for utter greatness in this game will be mods that sew together solid role-playing and GSG (Grand Strategy Game) facets into the combat and war. And I've got a feeling that there are plenty of highly-skilled modders, such as myself (have I no shame?), that share this vision.

I'm excited to work on this game; I'm excited to play this game; and I'm genuinely looking forward to see what this Early Access game looks like in a year. The developers have been patching daily and over weekends: it is clear that Taleworlds is committed to delivering a highly polished and, again, extremely user-extensible product in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

I recommend it to any fan of medieval-themed games. And if you're savvy regarding mod usage, HELL YEAH, BUY THIS NOW!
