It's pretty much the more boring version of Far Cry 3.

The villain, while good, appears less often.

The story, characters and their motivations are often muddled and convoluted. This made it hard for me to root for anyone.

The gunplay is the same as Far Cry 3. The only addition is using the sidearm while driving. But because of that they also had to change the weapon wheel system so 1/4 weapons will be a sidearm. The actual mechanic for it is terrible and it's saved only by the fact that you can have a grenade launcher as a sidearm.

The game's graphics are amazingly good but the world design/level design is the worst I've seen in a Ubisoft game this decade. The world looks and feels artificial. Most areas are barred off by hills that you can't climb and they're all smooth and fake looking. Most interesting places (that are higher than the lowest points of the area) are accessible only through 1 or 2 roads and maybe 1 grappling path. It sounds fine, but it turns formulaic and annoying really quickly.

The game is slightly more difficult and complex than Far Cry 3 with the addition of fortresses (harder outposts) and hunters (enemies that are only temporarily marked and can "charm" animals to not attack their allies). But then you realize that you just have to kill the hunters and then proceed as normal.

The voice acting is stellar as usual. Other than the protagonist himself who always sounds bored/sad and is ready to cry any moment now. Seriously though, Ajay Ghale is the worst character in a Ubisoft game so far. He has no motive for anything that he does. He has no interesting backstory and he has no agency behind him. He just gets pulled and pushed around and he takes it.

The performance is... less than desirable. I'm on a Ryzen 5 1400, GTX 1060 6GB, 8GB DDR4 2400MHz rig and the game runs at 30-45 fps 720p on Ultra settings (Constant 60 fps was achieved by lowering the presets twice. Ultra -> Very High -> High) . At the same time, Watch Dogs 2, another Ubisoft title, ran at 60 fps on average with the highest settings at 720p. Also, while you can play the game in windowed mode, it's quite unplayable. The mouse isn't locked and therefore you'll just casually be aiming and when you click, you just unfocus the game because the cursor was outside of the window. A shoddy job overall.

Overall, I would've given it a 5/10 (a.k.a. just average), but these performance issues and the windowed mode issue pushed it down to a 4/10. Plus, the price even during sales is pathetically high.
If you came from Far Cry 3 and you're really desperate for more, then either go for this or better yet, just replay Far Cry 3 with a hardcore mod.

4/10
