A great looking and sounding game that became an annoying chore to play.

I started this game with great optimism, but the longer I play, the more annoyed I get at all the small gripes I have with the game. From the amount of damage things do, where benches are placed, lacking exploration rewards, to a just useless "shards" mechanic.

I'm going to stubbornly finish this, but I will likely wait for a patch or 2 to see if there will be some improvements.

Weirdly enough, seeing the time this was in the oven, it just feels badly tested for a good gameplay loop.

The new "big" update makes the game a pain to play. The overworld means it takes longer to do anything, any they did something that causes the entire game to stutter like crazy.

Awesome demo! Really enjoyed playing this classic series again.

Absolutely LOVE the graphics! (they should make a megaman legends with this, hint hint)
But do yourself a favour and turn off the music before playing. The same 2 tunes, over and over and over.

I love this game.

I've played the GBA version before this, but I'm just going through the whole game again in this native pc version.

Great retro graphics and AMAZING music, now with a gba and hq version, are still super awesome.
The game has interesting gameplay with quite a bit of extras to collect, and minigames to beat.

My favorite bits are the funny dialogue with some (not so) hidden references here and there.
And it even comes with the GBA game rom included!

This is not a game about building cool vehicles and doing cool stuff with them!! This is a game about base building and automation.

You will be spending most of your time in you base, awkwardly driving around to get the camera angle right, crafting and building stuff. It's painfully slow, and trying to automate it makes you spend even more time crafting and building things that have NOTHING to do with what this game SHOULD be about: Making cool vehicles.

I think the game can still redeem itself if it just stops focusing on this so much, and focus on the thing that matters, the vehicle.

My feedback to this:
* Make crafting grab items directly out of storage, no pipes or other (satis)factory stuff needed.
* Allow the base to empty materials out of my vehicle automatically (via a special platform)
* Add a small drone/fly mode for building things in an area around your vehicle, using parts directly from nearby storage.

Sure base building itself can do with some more improvements, but at least this would let you just do the thing this game should be about: Making a cool vehicle, driving it around collecting parts from other vehicles, and collection materials to keep the base going.

I have about 10 hours into this upon this review, and I keep playing because I REFUSE to leave this unfinished.

But It's just not a good game.

It looks fine, I like the retro pixelated look. The music is oke but nothing special, just some ambient stuff to fill up the void. But the longer I play this, the more my brain starts telling me: "This is a weird Hollow Knight with bad map design and flow".

The "gun" range, the pogo mechanics, the enemy movement and attack patterns, I've all seen these before. The later mobs are a bit more original, but especially at the start you REALLY feel where lots of the inspiration came from.
Later on in the game, this get's a bit better with some of the special abilities, but by then you start running into the second issue.

The flow through the map feels frustrating.
Yes It's an open world, and you are supposed to explore. But then you get stuck.
The game shows you some broad goals far off on your map to go to, but you can't actually do these in any order. If you try to focus on the area that you run into first, you WILL get stuck!
In the end you just have to run back and forth a bit, with little fast travel or ways to make movement less of a chore. And after you get the bouncing ability, you get stuck again. Because you are supposed to use it on something that the game has never taught you.

The game has a real lack of "teaching" you some of it's core mechanics. And this will get you stuck a few times.

Overall, it's an OK game and metroidvania, but not one I would recommend.

Too short, and often re-uses puzzles.
Expect lots of sliding puzzles.

Ends with a "To Be Continued" even though the game is fully out??

Very mediocre metroidvania.

Graphics are really nice!

Cons:
Generic abilities
Weak writing
Uninteresting level design

Another Vampire Survivor clone that doesn't understand what made the original game FUN.
The Diablo 1 graphics and aesthetics are nice, but the gameplay is entirely void of fun.
