I don't write reviews often, and when I do they are normally more silly than serious, so here goes an attempt at a serious review based on my 1k+ hours in this game.

I have a love/hate relationship with Ark. Its the type of game I got hard in for a short while then get burned out and don't touch it for a long time. Things can get stale pretty quickly - especially if you just stick with vanilla Ark. In my opinion, mods help keep it interesting.

I have never played on a public server, and I intend to keep it that way. I have heard enough horror stories about griefing and over all a-hole-ness of some of the players to keep me away. I also don't play single player. I get bored way too quickly. So that leaves only private servers with friends, which in my opinion, is the best way to play.

NEVER expect things to go as planned in this game. Some of this comes with the territory of it being a survival game, but the rest of it comes from glitches. The brand new tame you spent hours trying to get? Clipped into the ground and gone forever. You finally found some fish to cool and feed yourself before you starve to death? As you drag the body, it flies up into the heavens way beyond reach. Sometimes its funny, sometimes its incredibly frustrating. But it is an unavoidable part of the game.

I think the devs have done some pretty shady stuff - like releasing paid DLC while the game was still in beta, and working on cranking out paid content instead of fixing existing broken content - but with that said, I always end up buying the content I complain about, and I always end up enjoying it.

TL;DR of my long and confusing post is this; its a good game, Bront. As much as people b-tch and moan, it really is a good game despite its flaws.

Simple, quick and relaxing way to pass time. A couple of the puzzles had me cursing, but none of them were overly complicated. Just slow down, and think it through.

Controls are clunky, what little story I got through was lacking at best, a bit confusing gameplay wise, but super easy achivements. Played long enough to get them all and get the cards. Now I will probably uninstall. I wanted to like this game.

The humor is fun, but everything else leaves something to be desired.

Virus Scanner quarantined the exe file as a Trojan.

10/10 would allow to infect my computer again

Wait for the F2P launch. Trust me.

Pros:

Lovely music
Interesting gameplay

Cons:
So. Many. BUGS. I can't stay connected for more than an hour, and God forbid I need to change areas.
As an avid MMO player, there's a bit of a learning curve.
Very little caracter creation options - you can choose between a handful of hairstyles that are all the same color.

YOUR PARTY WIPED IN A DUNGEON. WHY?
Tank: DPS sucked
DPS: Healer sucked
Healer: You all sucked

10/10 would wipe again
