Imagine the two-handshake meme, but with three of them, labeled "Story", "Gameplay", and "Waifu/Husbando".

In this segment of the platformer genre, comparisons with Super Meat Boy are pretty much inevitable. However, what the comparisons miss are the major differences between Celeste and SMB. These differences are primarily philosophical. Celeste is hard, incredibly hard in some places, but it's never unfair. When you die, it's not because the game wanted to kill you. And your death isn't treated as a joke, but an opportunity to get back up and do it again but better. This, I think, is what inspired me to keep coming back to Celeste when I'd abandoned SMB somewhere around chapter 3. When I died too much, I simply set it aside and came back to it several hours later, and I could do it.

You can do it, too.

Early Access Review
I definitely enjoyed this game. It's not really as deep as SpaceChem, and I don't yet have the same intuition for solving problems as I do in SpaceChem, but it is Early Access, and the developers have been adding new content routinely, so I look forward to continuing to play this as it becomes the game it was meant to be.

This is one of the few games I've played where, even if you lose horribly, you'll be laughing at yourself rather than raging. If you've never had a bazooka shot accidentally knock a mine into one of your worms, causing a cascade that blasts your entire team off the map, then you haven't truly lived. And doing the same kind of thing to your opponent will make you feel like an omnipotent golden god.

My girlfriend and I routinely play this game together. She had 5 normas, 200 stars, and landed on her home square. However, I had placed an Exchange trap there. I stole her stars, and then on my turn, rolled a 6 to land on my home and steal the win.

She didn't break up with me.

Thanks, 100% Orange Juice, for proving that our relationship can survive literally anything.

This game bends my brain in all the right ways. You'll never feel stupider than when you can't figure out a challenge, nor will you ever feel smarter than when you finally do.
