has several unique mechanics that set itself apart from other farming games, such as methods of automating resource gathering so that you can opt out of a task you'd rather not do (like mining) without missing out on its resource, improving the output of a limited number of machines so you can specialize in products you like, and a controllable pet that does farming tasks so that you don't have to waddle from plant to plant fidgeting with individual tools.

the combat is straightforward but becomes pretty challenging as you get deeper, and offers a decent amount of stat customization

i like the characters and the dialogue, it's generally got a silly tone without going overboard

best combat you'll find in any survival crafting game (or perhaps any game), and absolutely fantastic boss fights. even if you don't care about pvp and just want a fun pve experience, this game has it in spades

a well-rounded survival experience with lots of goodies to search for, cool locations, and satisfying building. it has more in-depth survival mechanics like you'd see in green hell, but they're more forgiving here. you care about treating various conditions, but they don't become a nuisance and have clear solutions.

the story and content unlocks have a good pacing, i finished at 40 hours and the mechanics never overstayed their welcome.

only complaint is tool durability felt consistently low, especially the higher tier tools, and the repair mechanic was not well implemented. it's frequently better to never repair your tools at all and just ditch them and make new ones, and if you repair an item that's at high durability it will actually lower its current durability below what it was before being repaired, which is just silly. there are settings to tweak durability, but at a baseline the mechanic doesn't work very well.

eurojank rpg with soulslike mechanics, mediocre combat, bad boss fights, and very enjoyable dialogue, voice acting, and story. i was quite surprised by how much i ended up getting invested into the inter-faction drama and the colorful characters involved. it was a breath of fresh air after suffering through starfield's characters staring dead eyed into the camera spouting endless trite moralisms.

the environments were cool, lots of secrets to find and some really fun vistas to stare at, big props to the level designers. good pacing and length, didn't overstay its welcome, overall i enjoyed the game a lot even though i'm usually a stickler for good combat

Terrific game. It had everything I wanted, and none of the tiresome old tropes JRPGs are often bogged down with - I would strongly recommend it to anyone who's tired of getting coddled and pushed down a strict path in games.
The game's world is enormous, but what's more important is it's all very lovingly and carefully crafted. It was 70 straight hours of fantastic adventures, exploring of my own accord to experience the world and quench my unending thirst for secrets (there are so many secrets!).
Lots of classes and special items for you to mix and match to make wacky builds. Significant endgame content to give you lots of challenges to overcome with all the stuff you collected.
I hope this game explodes in popularity, because I had a wonderful time with it and I want others to experience it too.

like the idea of WoW arenas, but hated the grinding and total disregard for balance? this is the game for you. raw PVP, only skill matters.

Do you like Rust, but often think to yourself "this game has too much content, and doesn't crash often enough"? Then Hurtwold is the game for you.

adventure game + card game + arkham combat = this game

the amount of content available in the game makes it perfectly priced at $20. i definitely recommend it.

the combat has some flaws and there is plenty of RNG in the game, but you still have a lot of control over your fate.

the game is very simplistic and linear. i would not recommend this to anyone unless they assign very little value to their dollar and want to play a difficult game that uses poor mechanics to accomplish its level of difficulty.

you must travel through the exact same dungeon each time you play. there is no random generation, there are no alternate routes, there are no interesting environments, there are no pacing mechanics. when you die you lose all your gear, meaning that upon your first death you will most likely save significant time by just ending your run immediately instead of trying to stab skeletons with the basic sword 30+ times in a row. there is a significant amount of mandatory backtracking through empty rooms each time you play the game. approximately 40% of your time spent on a run will consist of walking back through a long series of already cleared rooms.

the combat gives you very little to work with: jumping can potentially provide you with an extra attack due to frame reset upon landing, but makes you very vulnerable. ducking makes you stationary, resulting in it being a worthless mechanic. enemies don't follow the rules of the game: they ignore damage from traps, and in addition to attacking you will also harm you upon contact while constantly walking forwards. this means that all forms of "normal" combat (ducking, blocking, parrying) are thrown out the window since you can not backstep their approach during all of these maneuvers. instead, you must backstep-stab-repeat ad nauseam in order to guarantee defeating an enemy safely.

there is very little content. every sword is identical in usage except for the randomly varying damage ranges and the possibility for 1 of 3 elemental enchants that have a 10% chance (RNG? in a game where "quick reflex and timing are key"?) to trigger a minor effect. there are also 3 shields in the game with chances to trigger minor bonuses. that is all of the "gear" in the game.

you will quickly grow tired of going through the exact same basic rooms time and time again, fighting the same limited collection of simple enemies.
