If you loved the first game and love 3rd or 1st person shooters you will love helldivers 2.

I was concerned the game wouldn't be a faithful progression from Helldivers 1. I was cautiously optimistic.

I can now say that I am really happy with how the gameplay mechanics feel. The gunfighting feels just right. I love the terrain negotiation. The interactions with various objects in the world such as barricades feel right.

Overall it ran really smooth at 5120x1440 @120hz on my 7800x3d, 3070, and 64 GB RAM with the game installed on a dedicated NMVe. The game supports my ultra widescreen ratio without any configuration.

The only hiccup I am experiencing is when I try to enter the game options menu or social menu.. the game crashes to desktop immediately but cleanly.

UPDATE May 5th, 2024:

Cannot recommend this game now due to the Sony PSN account linking requirement.

If that requirement goes away then I'll re-recommend the game.

PS5 players chose Sony. PC players did not. Do not force them to link to a PSN account.

UPDATE May 6th, 2024:

It is a great day for democracy!

Sony has backed down on their PSN linking requirement after massive public outrage. In good faith I can once again recommend this game and am adjusting my review as such. I urge all other helldivers who changed their recommendation to do the same - we don't want Helldivers 2 to die.

Early Access Review
This game is a rare gem - It has a TON of potential and I look forward to dedicated servers (preferably Linux-based DS software, please) so I can host SEVERAL servers for this game for my group and the public.

If you enjoyed Command and Conquer Renegades and Starcraft/Starship troopers you will LOVE this game. The RTS aspect feels just like an RTS game - really feels like command and conquer. The FPS aspect feels like an actual FPS game. They have been meshed together in the same game at a masterful level.

The true realization of the Grand Theft Auto game play mechanics. The wild west plus outlaw open world playstyle meshes all too perfectly!

Quite possibly one of the worst games ever released, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare spawned an entire market that caters to children with short attention spans that cannot enjoy a video game unless they are constantly holding down the trigger.

With an unrealistic single-player campaign story-line and even crappier multiplayer game modes, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and all following releases in the related series is sure to poison the minds of young children worldwide.

Hours and hours of storyline to dive into. Skyrim offers a very in depth world that will give you hundreds of hours of fun!
