as i write this, it's close to midnight. i played through all of this game in like, two sittings.

the subject matter and themes can be a bit much to handle, but please. it's worth it, so long as gore an body horror aren't too much for you. this game is such an incredible journey. i promise not a single cent you pay for this will be wasted, even at full price. or you could wait for a sale, i don't care. i'm not your mom.

okay. i enjoy granular management and spreadsheets. if you're into more recent 4x stuff like civ 6 or older stuff like master of orion i think you should play this. what sets amplitude apart from your average 4x dev team (no disrespect to firaxis and the like, your stuff is interesting too but, yknow) is how they're able to convey stories through the mechanics of their management through things like quests, events, unique planets or areas, or even gimmicks unique to a faction. i found the narratives conveyed by both primary faction stories and side quests to be very compelling, helping to flesh out a massive universe of sci-fi with a very storied history. a recent update has also made the DLC that everyone hates (awakening) actually good now too, so i'd say it's a pretty good time to get into this game.

a hundred times over the best platformers i've ever played. sega wishes there was this much love and beauty in sonic. everything flows so perfectly, with pristine-crafted spritework from the characters to the enemies to the backgrounds. all four playable characters are so distinct and interesting, and the story is just so, so beautiful, far better than the first one. please play this game

more than 400 hours in, i think i can safely say i enjoy this game. the sheer variety of how you can go about your adventure in this game is amazing. i'm not talking about moral choices, though there are a few Things That Have Consequences Down The Line. what i mean is how flexible any given class and race combination is.

you're deliberately started with some of the more approachable classes (plus the doombringer, two tinker classes, and writhing one, if you've bought the DLC) and eased into the engagement of mechanics in the game. the more you die, the more you get on what works with what you did and what doesn't. the further you get, the more classes and races you can unlock.

as you push the brink of your progress, you'll be going from playing simple human berserkers and magic-elf alchemists to insane things, like a tiny fuzzy humanoid creature that can evade being hurt by simply dismissing it from their mind, or a gigantic rune-infused ogre capable of delivering devastating blows in concert with a variety of evil spells powered by stolen life force.

tome really pushes its inspirations to new ideas very well, adding all sorts of weird and interesting ideas to the well-established fantasy genre. this is not to even mention the tons of interesting little stories, lore, and vignettes scattered throughout the world, waiting for someone to find them.

with all that said, this game requires a fair degree of patience, and at least a passing familiarity with how traditional turn-based roguelikes tend to work. it's quite the time sink if you're willing to commit, though

An odd-ball narrative thriller and callback to both the golden age of FMV and detective noir, complete with cheesy acting and very expressive faces. Kinda makes me wonder what certain games (LA Noire) would've been like with a bit more restraint

I fell in love with this game within my first two hours. It expands upon the formula of its predecessor, introducing new characters and ways to play. The visuals and soundtrack are also pretty amazing, to boot. If you want an easy to pick up game that you can play with your friends, look no further.

Just remember to not bring any weak ♥♥♥♥.

maybe i'm the intended audience for this game. whatever. what i can say, though, is that this game is extremely impressive in its scope, considering the size of the dev team. it's extremely well-written and has a lot of talent behind it. please, please buy this game. maybe for a joke. maybe if you're into it. just, please, spread this game however you can. it's so extremely good
