I think I've put in a good amount of time into this game so I think I can give a helpful review to others.

If you are a fan of horror as a genre (movies, games, etc.) Dead by Daylight is a pretty great game. You can play as a lot of key horror figures such as Michael Myers or Leatherface, amongst many others. There are also a lot of aspects to the game that are pretty scary or at least make your heart race. There are some killers which can even make you jump out of your seat. Overall though, DBD is mostly a survival game with horror being its outward appearance. You will mostly be finding yourself planning ahead, and thinking of likely possibilities when it comes to what the killer/survivors may be doing. You will be strategizing as to how to help yourself and your teammates escape, and these decisions would be dictated by your choice of perks (boosts, or abilities a character can possess) as well as your teammates' and the killer you are facing's perks.

This game requires a lot of hours to fully understand all the aspects of the gameplay. I have 300+ hours and I still don't know all the little details that could probably make me a better player. So, this game is very competitive and people want to win (which causes some toxicity, but overall its pretty minor in my opinion compared to other popular multiplayer games.) Expect to put a lot of hours before you really start to get good at decision making and being able to evade the killer/get kills.

Despite it having used to have bad optimization issues in the past, I believe BHVR has gotten the optimization a lot more down now. However there are still other issues with the game that are pretty apparent. First, the grind - which admittedly BHVR has made better with recent patches - is still pretty bad. You still need to play A LOT to get every perk on every character, if that is something you desire to do. There is also the issue of bugs. Bugs are pretty common in this game, and it kinda sucks, but they are usually taken care of pretty quick. Last thing is that there is an enormous amount of DLC, and a lot of awesome characters and perks are DLC and some can't even be purchased with in-game currency due to them being licensed.

Overall though I feel Dead by Daylight is definitely a multiplayer game worth checking out, especially if you have friends who are willing to get the game with you and play with you. This game is a ton of fun with friends, especially full parties. It's likely also one of the most active asymmetrical multiplayer games, and so the queue times (which yes, used to be an issue) aren't an issue very much. If you like horror, survival, and multiplayer games, this is definitely a game you should check out.
