Disclosure: I picked up the entire Arkham series for ~$22 during the Christmas/holiday sale, so the cost of the game really isn't a consideration while writing this review (though I do think the current price $20 per Rock Steady's games are well worth it).

The Batman portrayed in this game is somewhere in between Batman Begins and Christopher Nolan's Batman. If you liked both of those, you'll probably love this. Wayne Tech has been busy developing next-gen tech for Batman, so everything is more scifi/fantasy than before. If you don't like scifi/fantasy, this might leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Right off the bat you're fully immersed in the game. If you're not one for a good story, you might hate the frequent cinematic elements (in-game, not prerecorded), but I find it adds to the illusion. New game mechanics are introduced fluidly as part of the story, IMO better than Asylum and City did it (though those did it well, too). They even did a good job integrating the story line with Gotham's lack of civilians and abundance of baddies, which Origins basically just shrugged off as "meh, it's Christmas eve."

Most of the bad reviews on this game are for two reasons: the player hates the batmobile aspect, or they need boss fights for the game to feel right. Personally, I love the batmobile. One second you're 1k feet in the air overlooking the Gotham city skyline (complete with zeppelins) the next you've dive-bombed in to the batmobile to take on remote-controlled militia tanks. Then it's back to the sky rocketing out of the batmobile like it's a gauss cannon. The transition between these activities is insanely fluid.

I will probably play this game to 100% completion, and come back to do the same again later.

Batman out of 10: would recommend.
