Early Access Review
Solitaire Sagrada with just enough complexity and iteration to get sucked in. Very solid way to spend some downtime.

This graphically-rich re-imagining of the 1977, 350-point Don Woods edition of Will Crowther's famous text adventure is an extremely faithful adaptation of an important game in gaming history. Roberta Williams' vision and her team's efforts bring a multi-sensory presentation to what was previously the imagination's purview, as players explore the various caverns and their secrets. Each space is detailed, with colors and textures to give them a unique feel. The trek is not without its hazards: dwarves, dragons, darkness, and time itself all pose problems that must be overcome with a combination of wit, wisdom, and luck. While games have improved and iterated on more player-friendly design patterns over the decades, it's a valuable view into the past, to how Roberta and Ken (and many others) were inspired to make an industry in part thanks to stories like this one. The greatest value, though, is in endeavoring to present Colossal Cave in a way that will attract newer audiences, like a carefully-crafted museum expo. Spelunkers willing to master these dangers and scour every corner of the subterranean world will be rewarded with much more than a wheelhouse full of treasures.

Still one of gaming's ultimate redemption stories. Hello Games has continued to pour their collective efforts into NMS years after its infamous release, and the result is a world that's an absolute delight to get lost in.

Mighty Pirate, indeed. Telltale again suceeds, this time daring to resurrect perhaps the most beloved of adventure games with a brand-new entry that does not fail the legacy of its two-dimensional origins.

The third series of Telltale's revitalization of a true classic might be its best. Few games get madcap dialog quite like Sam and Max.

Rosangela Blackwell might be the best written female protagonist in a very long time. Brilliant series.

The all-time champion of strategy games. Though not its most complex entry, the best balance of complexity and speed.

Not too long, but worth the price. Great writing, and a major nostalgia trip for the SNES generation.

Terry Cavnaugh explores virtually every permutation of a simple mechanic in a love letter to retro gaming. With SoulEye's flawless soundtrack and challenging yet addictive gameplay, VVVVVV is one of indie gaming's must-owns.
