Throne and Liberty | By Wholf
  • While Throne and Liberty initially started as a Lineage 2-related project, it’s clear that the game has no real ties to the series, aside from the same frustrating RNG-based gear enhancement system. At least they admitted this by giving the game a new title.

  • The P2W aspect is overwhelming. RNG equipment upgrades (reminiscent of Lineage 2) are tied heavily to cash purchases. You can improve your luck, buy almost everything with premium currency, and, in essence, swipe your way to victory.

  • Borrowing heavily from Guild Wars 2 (GW2), the combat feels flashier but mechanically worse. The overdone animations and visual effects make it chaotic, with little to no feedback from your character. PvP, based on videos I’ve seen, looks even more frustrating. In comparison, Guild Wars 2, a 12-year-old game, handles a similar system far better.

  • Combat is actually the most enjoyable part of Throne and Liberty, but the game barely lets you experience it in the early stages. In my first 8 hours, I spent about 20 minutes fighting. The rest was running around, following the story, and dealing with repetitive tasks.

  • The narrative is shallow, generic, and full of poorly translated fantasy clichés. The lore is a confusing mishmash of random names, events, and places with no real connection or explanation. It somehow manages to feel both overly simplistic ("bad guys with red eyes are evil") and ridiculously convoluted (with constant references to unpronounceable names and items that mean nothing to the player).

  • The characters are poorly written, poorly translated, and badly dubbed. Even though the voice actors seem to be trying, it’s clear they had no direction. The dialogues are painful, often nonsensical, and make the story even harder to take seriously.

  • The worst offender is an incredibly annoying companion character—an odd, chibi-like creature with 2D smiley faces that scream in high-pitched gibberish. It’s inserted into nearly every serious moment, ruining the tone and delivering severe mood whiplash.

  • As expected from a game released in 2024, the graphics are visually appealing but lack creativity. The environments feel generic, almost like AI-generated fantasy landscapes. Lost Ark was far more inventive in terms of art direction and location variety.

  • In typical MMORPG fashion, Throne and Liberty includes standard fantasy races like orcs, dwarves, and goblins—but you can’t play any of them. Character creation is average for 2024, with body type customization being mostly symbolic. Every character ends up looking the same, and the city quickly turns into a sea of similar-shaped avatars. You can create a character that doesn’t look like a K-pop star, but the story forces you into the role of a 16-18-year-old protagonist, making it unintentionally hilarious if your character looks any older.

  • Throne and Liberty is a visually polished but deeply flawed MMORPG. The P2W mechanics are intrusive, the combat is underwhelming, and the story is bland at best. While there’s some potential with its flashy combat and morphing mechanics, the game’s lack of substance and overwhelming reliance on cash purchases make it hard to recommend.

Lockdown Protocol | By WHOLF
  • Lockdown Protocol is a first-person co-op/multiplayer game where the goal is to solve puzzles without being killed by the imposter, known as "The Dissident." You and your team work together to complete tasks and puzzles, but you can’t fully trust anyone since you never know who the imposter is. It’s similar to Among Us, but with a first-person perspective.

  • There isn’t much more to say about the gameplay—it’s primarily about completing tasks/puzzles while avoiding being killed. You’ll find yourself doing things like cooking, delivering packages, and other small tasks (I won’t spoil too much). The graphics and quality are decent, the in-game voice chat works fine, and the movement feels smooth. Overall, the game has a nice, casual vibe.

  • One thing to note is that if you plan on buying Lockdown Protocol, playing solo or joining random matches can be a frustrating experience. You’ll often get kicked from games, encounter many non-English speakers, and the overall atmosphere can feel lackluster without friends. It feels like the game is meant to be played with people you know—otherwise, it’s not as enjoyable. I tried several solo matches, and it just didn’t have the right vibe, which made it boring.

  • I’ve spent about 4 hours playing Lockdown Protocol with a group of 7-8 friends. We enjoyed it at first, but it quickly became repetitive and dull. The game lacks content—no customizations, leveling system, challenges, or achievements to keep you engaged. You’re simply solving puzzles, and that’s it. This lack of variety made the game feel bland, and we all lost interest.

  • Is the game worth €10? I suppose so, but I’d recommend buying it with caution. If you’re curious, try it out, but make sure you don’t go over 2 hours of playtime if you think you’ll want a refund. I’d give it a 4/10 due to the lack of content, repetitive gameplay, and the fact that there’s not much to do beyond solving a few puzzles.

Vigor | By WHOLF
  • Vigor is essentially a looter-shooter set in a beautiful environment, featuring diverse locations and biomes with plenty of exploration. The game includes small details, easter eggs, and collectibles amidst stunning natural settings. There are also fun game modes like a free-for-all and capture the point, where you only have one life each round, similar to Call of Duty's search-and-destroy mode.

  • You can gather materials to upgrade and expand your camp, which adds depth to the gameplay. There’s more than just combat — you can set traps, farm, chop wood, and more (I won’t spoil too much). All the materials you find in PvP matches can be used to upgrade your camp, allowing you to craft weapons, armor, ammo, and other essential items to continue expanding, which is an awesome feature.

  • I used to play Vigor on PlayStation a while back, and now that it’s available on Steam, it’s even better. So far, I’ve played for about 1.5 hours, and while that’s not a lot of time, I’ve won every fight, gathered a ton of materials, and even claimed multiple air drops. I also won a phone duel or something similar. But as I write this, I’m wondering — were those bots? The game seems quite easy. The free-for-all and capture-the-point modes felt like I was up against real players, but I still had moments where I thought, “How did he see or kill me?” Of course, the game offers both first- and third-person perspectives, but there were a few times when I was repeatedly taken out by headshots by the same player. When I checked his Steam profile, he only had 1.2 hours of playtime, and Vigor was the only game he owned. Not saying he was cheating, but it didn’t feel quite right.

  • I found the controls a bit frustrating when I first started playing. Inventory is bound to the “I” key, changing weapons is done with “Q,” and you have to hold “E” to access your cosmetics and items. It felt clunky and a little annoying at first, but as with most games, the more you play, the more you get used to the controls.

  • Is the game amazing? Yes, but I feel like something is missing. I can’t put my finger on what, exactly, but I also have a feeling I won’t be playing it for more than two or three weeks. As I continue playing, I’m sure the hardcore players will end up killing me in a second. I’d rate Vigor a solid 7.5/10. It’s a beautiful game with tons to explore and do, and I’m hopeful for future updates and developments. But overall, it might not be the game for me.

Isonzo | By Wholf
  • Isonzo was a game that I had high hopes for, but I hesitated to buy it initially due to its price and uncertainty about whether it would truly be worth the investment. However, when I saw the game on sale and realized I had some extra funds left in my Steam wallet, I thought, "Why not?" It seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally test it out and see if it lived up to my expectations.

  • Upon downloading the game and navigating to the main menu, I was impressed with the clean and straightforward layout. Everything you need to optimize your gameplay experience is there, from character customization to various settings. After a quick look around, I decided to dive straight into a match. I noticed that there were only a few active servers—three were full, and the rest had around 20 to 30 players each, which is still quite decent for a game like this.

  • Once I spawned in, I immediately had a "wow" moment. The graphics were stunning, the quality was top-notch, and the combination of lighting, sound, music, and chaotic battlefield atmosphere was incredibly immersive. People were screaming, bullets were whizzing past, and explosions were going off all around me. It really felt like I was in the game.

  • After getting a handle on the controls, figuring out where to go, and understanding where the enemies were, I did die a few times, but that's part of the learning curve. The match ended with our team winning, and to my surprise, I ended up with 77 kills as a level 1 player, landing me in the top two. I achieved this mainly by camping in a building and popping off headshots, which felt more like a team deathmatch. It really comes down to your play style.

  • But despite these exhilarating moments, I decided to refund Isonzo. Why? Because I realized that I would probably play the game for about a week before my motivation dwindled. I think this is more of a personal issue—as I get older, gaming doesn’t hold the same allure it once did. That said, the game itself is amazing.

  • For those interested in World War I, the atmosphere, historical accuracy, and similar genres, Isonzo is absolutely worth a try. The game is visually stunning, with intense gameplay and plenty of moments that made me say, "Wow, this is incredible!" Bullets and explosions are everywhere, and the graphics are top-tier, but for some reason, I just couldn't fully commit to it.

  • Overall, Isonzo is definitely worth trying, especially now that it's only around 10 euros, which is a fantastic deal in my opinion. I'm not quite sure why there are negative reviews or why it seems the game is slowly losing its player base, as I found it to be quite a solid game. I played for under two hours and know there is still much more to explore and experience. If you're on the fence, I'd say give it a shot while it's on sale—you might find it's exactly what you're looking for.

PANICORE | By Wholf
  • I’ve spent about 4/5 hours playing Panicore, and while it's fun at first, it does become pretty bland after a while. I've managed to finish every single map on all difficulties, even trying my hand with two monsters, but there's not much left to keep you engaged after that.

  • One of the biggest letdowns for me is the lack of random jump scares. Knowing that the only thing that might scare you is the monster makes the game feel quite predictable and boring. The absence of unexpected horror elements takes away from the fear factor, which is crucial for a horror game.

  • On the positive side, the graphics and overall quality are quite nice. The game feels smooth, and the art style fits well with the game's theme. However, the gameplay elements could use more depth. Currently, the only thing you can spend your in-game money on is skins, which are honestly pretty underwhelming. It would be great to see a more dynamic shop system with scary items, decoys, or maybe even tarot cards to add more excitement and strategy.

  • There’s also no story or character development, which adds to the game’s blandness. It’s just the map, you, and the monster—no lore, no special abilities, nothing to make you feel connected to the characters. Some added lore or character-specific abilities could make a huge difference and give players something to invest in.

  • The pre-game lobby is one of the more unique aspects, with the billiard table and zombies in a cage. It's a cool touch and feels pretty unique, but this area could be expanded further. Adding secrets or hidden scares, similar to Phasmophobia's random girl scare behind the door, would make this space even more engaging and add to the overall atmosphere.

  • The maps are decent, with the hospital being the most challenging. The horror vibe is there with the blood and scary sounds, but it doesn’t go much further. It would be great to see more random horror elements that create tension and give you goosebumps. Connecting these scares to a story could add a layer of depth and make the game more memorable.

  • Overall, I’d give Panicore a 6.5/10. It’s a fun game to play with friends for a couple of hours, but it quickly becomes repetitive and lacks the depth to keep players coming back. I know the developers are still working on the game, but Panicore risks becoming just another bland horror game in an already crowded market without some of these changes.

Once Human | By Wholf
  • Once Human is a game I've dedicated around 200 hours to, playing every single day and experiencing a range of emotions from fun and laughter to excitement. In my opinion, this game is definitely a contender for Game of the Year, though it does need some fixes.

  • The game offers an open-world survival experience filled with monsters, elite bosses, dungeons, silos, Easter eggs, puzzles, and many other features. There are bizarre creatures, a compelling storyline (which could use some updates), stunning graphics, smooth gameplay, and a robust base-building system (though it could use more features and clipping fixes).

  • Unfortunately, the servers/worlds in Once Human feel empty and inactive. Despite there being hundreds of bases, only a few are in use. With a maximum of 400 players per world, I rarely encounter other players, except during world events. This issue needs addressing soon as finding an active Warband or Hive is currently challenging.

  • For example, I've been looking for an active Warband on my server, but no one seems to engage in world chat or participate in Warband activities, which is disappointing. Luckily, a fix is coming in August, so let's hope for the best. The same issue applies to playing with friends. Some of my friends can't join my server because it's full, even though it feels empty. This problem is also expected to be resolved in August. However, another issue arises with new players joining level 50 players. While we could share items and boost them, it's not ideal. I can't wait to play with my whole group, but I don't want to start over again.

  • Some players complain about two files and claim the game is Pay2Win. First, the two files are harmless, and all information about them is available online. Second, the game is not Pay2Win; you can only buy cosmetics and the battle pass.

  • Once you reach level 50, obtain the best gear and weapons, complete all villages, cities, areas, side quests, and main quests, and build a powerful character, the game feels complete. Personally, I've finished everything significant, maybe missing a few puzzles. Now, I'm making YouTube tutorials, exploring, finding Easter eggs, and reworking my base. I have high hopes for more content in the future and can't wait to see what's next.

  • The game offers a lot: a vast world with plenty of activities, challenges, world events, areas to clear, puzzles, Easter eggs, a compelling storyline, base-building, unique items, and extensive weapon and gear customization. The music and sound effects are also exceptionally well done, especially the main menu music, which reminds me of the good old Call of Duty days.

  • However, the game might be too easy. A level 20 player can fight level 30/40 enemies with the right loadouts. Leveling up is also straightforward if you focus on exploring and doing quests rather than just dungeons. It depends on your playstyle really.

  • The development team is very active and communicative, providing information, answering questions, handling tickets, and more. They are passionate, and I'm happy to work with them. Unlike many companies with big games, this team handles things well, and I wish them all the best.

  • Additionally, if you're on a PvP server and in a PvP zone, sometimes objects and buildings don't render properly over long distances. This can create the illusion that you can hit an enemy when they are actually hidden behind a rock or inside a house. I've encountered this multiple times, and it's quite frustrating. Hopefully, this issue will be fixed soon.

  • Another point to consider in PvP is that if you're getting wrecked by an opponent, it might be because they're using a powerful build, like the Shrapnel build, which deals a lot of damage. Keep that in mind!
To summarize, here are the top 5 positives and negatives:
Positives:
1. The vast array of features Once Human offers.
2. The base-building and crafting system.
3. The detailed loadout system with blueprints and modifications.
4. A large world with plenty to explore, discover, and solve.
5. The game's impressive graphics and immersive environment.

Negatives:
1. The server system, where friends can't join and servers feel empty.
2. The game being a bit too easy.
3. Overpowered builds if done correctly.
4. A clunky building system with alignment and clipping issues.
5. Occasional crashes, even on a perfectly capable PC.

Overall, Once Human is a highly enjoyable game. It's free-to-play, packed with features, boasts great graphics, and is easy to progress in. Despite minor bugs, well-developed systems, and the need for updates, Once Human feels like a blend of Palworld, Fallout 76, and Rust. I'm giving it a 9.2/10 so far. Great job, and I can't wait to see its future.

DOMENATION | By Wholf
  • DOMENATION, a new Battle Royale game recently released on Steam, originally started as a mobile game (I think) and has now been ported to PC. The gameplay is quite straightforward: you collect random loot and weapons, encounter NPCs that drop items upon defeat, and rush to hide in a dome-shaped shield as the timer ticks down. The shrinking amount of domes increases player encounters as the match progresses.

  • However, DOMENATION appears to have been released on Steam without sufficient testing. The game is plagued by numerous issues, glitches, and an overall lack of polish. The servers are unstable, resulting in a less-than-smooth gameplay experience. During my playtime, I managed to win every match, mainly because I only faced bots and perhaps one or two real players, which detracts from any real challenge.

  • Key features like leveling and the reward system are non-functional, and button inputs during combat or on the main menu often fail to register. The bots exhibit erratic behavior, constantly jumping and dashing while firing with near-perfect accuracy, further diminishing the game's challenge due to its low player base.

  • Despite being in development for a considerable time and even hosting competitions, DOMENATION feels unrefined. Perhaps these features are more suited to its mobile version.

  • Graphically, the game is mediocre at best, with basic visuals that don't stand out. The controls and movement are clunky, with inconsistent hit registration. The sound and music are buggy, sometimes becoming highly annoying, which detracts from the overall experience.

  • In summary, DOMENATION was released too soon and is riddled with problems, making it a frustrating and unpolished game to play.

The Front | By Wholf
  • I used to play and stream The Front for about 70 hours, dedicating nearly 5 hours a day with love, passion, and enthusiasm. Initially, the game was fantastic—smooth, fun, and packed with activities. It felt like a modern version of Rust with added features, and I was excited about its future.

  • I actively helped many players on stream, through my YouTube videos, on Steam, and Discord. Eventually, I was promoted to Moderator for The Front, continuing to support the community with 100% dedication.

  • However, over time, the game began to decline. The player count dropped, and negative feedback and reviews increased due to numerous bugs, glitches, poor communication (the biggest issue), and a lack of updates and new features. After 2 to 3 months of being almost constantly involved, I realized the developers no longer had the same passion.

  • I haven’t played The Front for several months but decided to write this review to warn potential buyers about its current state. The low player count, persistent bugs and glitches, lack of communication, and absence of updates make the game feel empty and neglected.

  • You can still buy the game and might enjoy it for about 10 to 20 hours. However, one of the main issues is the prevalence of cheaters. The team responsible for banning cheaters is far behind schedule. The game is infested with cheaters who can destroy your base with a few clicks. I investigated and documented the cheaters, finding that they continued to ruin servers for weeks. Despite multiple attempts to contact the team, I received no response.

  • The game has a lot of potential. It looks good, runs smoothly, sounds are decent, and there’s plenty to do, especially when building your base. But currently, you’ll mostly see “maintenance notice” messages, cheaters destroying bases, unpopulated servers, and an overall empty feeling.

  • I decided to step down as a Moderator and leave everything behind, feeling that my time, effort, and dedication were wasted. The only positives were gaining moderation experience and a bit of reputation. I felt betrayed by the developers, which is a real shame.

Pixel Gun 3D: PC Edition | By Wholf
  • Pixel Gun 3D: PC Edition initially dazzles with its charming pixel art, plethora of weapons, customization options, and diverse game modes. However, after sinking around 7 hours into the game, the initial excitement gives way to frustration and disappointment.

  • At first glance, Pixel Gun 3D seems like a treasure trove of content, offering a wealth of gameplay variety. Yet, beneath the surface, the game struggles to differentiate itself from the myriad of similar pixelated shooters saturating the market. While each game may have its unique quirks, they ultimately blend together in a sea of similarity, leaving players craving innovation and originality.

  • Adding insult to injury, the game is plagued by cheaters and exploiters, tarnishing the experience further. Encountering 15 cheaters in just 7 hours of playtime is unacceptable and highlights a glaring issue with the game's security measures. The prevalence of players exploiting glitches to gain an unfair advantage only exacerbates the problem, creating a toxic environment that detracts from the enjoyment of legitimate players.

  • However, the most significant grievance lies in the game's pay-to-win model. Pixel Gun 3D shamelessly prioritizes monetization over fair gameplay, with certain weapons offering one-shot kills from absurd distances. This imbalance not only frustrates players but also undermines the integrity of the competitive experience. Coupled with incessant prompts to make purchases, the game's aggressive monetization tactics leave a sour taste in the mouths of many players.

  • Ultimately, Pixel Gun 3D: PC Edition fails to live up to its initial promise. While it possesses the potential for enjoyment, it is overshadowed by its pay-to-win mechanics, rampant cheating, and toxic community. As my motivation wanes and the allure of the game fades, it becomes increasingly clear that the developers' prioritization of profit over player satisfaction has led Pixel Gun 3D down a disappointing path. For these reasons, I reluctantly cannot recommend Pixel Gun 3D: PC Edition to prospective players.

Escape the Backrooms | By Wholf
  • After spending approximately 10 to 11 hours immersed in Escape the Backrooms, I find myself torn between moments of enjoyment and bouts of frustration. This game offers a distinctive and visually appealing experience, but it's not without its flaws.

  • One of the game's strengths lies in its uniqueness. From its intriguing concept to its visually captivating design, Escape the Backrooms stands out as a refreshing addition to the indie gaming scene. However, this uniqueness is sometimes overshadowed by inconsistent level design.

  • Playing with friends added to the fun, but we encountered a mix of levels that ranged from mundane and overly simplistic to frustratingly difficult. While a challenge can be engaging, some levels felt unfairly hard, leading to moments of genuine frustration. Additionally, upon completing the game, there was a lingering sense of disappointment. Despite the time invested, the experience felt short, lacking in depth, and devoid of any compelling lore or story elements.

  • The absence of a cohesive narrative leaves the game feeling somewhat empty and repetitive. While the core gameplay mechanics are enjoyable, they fail to sustain interest over the long term. Despite our initial enthusiasm, we found ourselves questioning whether our time had been well spent.

  • In reflection, I would rate Escape the Backrooms a modest 6.5 out of 10. While it offers moments of fun and laughter, it falls short of delivering a truly satisfying experience. However, I'm hopeful for the game's future, knowing that the developer is actively working on updates. With continued effort and improvements, Escape the Backrooms has the potential to realize its full potential and provide a more fulfilling gaming experience. I wish the developers the best of luck in their endeavors.
