A lovely little casual fishing sim with a dollop of Lovecraftian horror on top. The game loop is satisfying and the story and puzzles are doled out quickly enough to keep things fresh through the finale. The grind is pleasantly mild such that the game doesn't feel like a chore, and the scares are just spooky enough to be fun. Atmosphere is top notch and I loved every minute of it.

Early Access Review
I adore this game. It's Left 4 Dead meets Minecraft meets Starship Troopers through the lens of Gimli.

I liked this game so much I bought a second copy from the Windows store to play with my XBox buddy, and I still felt like I got my money's worth out of it. Since release, the game has been updated with massive patches greatly expanding the scope of the game and enhancing the gameplay, and the devs show no sign of stopping.

Update: Updating my review for the Steam seasonal bonus. Still a great game. The seasonal battlepasses have all added new weapons, enemies, and mission objectives and aren't grindy burn-out-fests. Plus, anything you fail to unlock during the season goes into the regular loot pool so there's zero FOMO. Doesn't get better than that.

I love this game. I find myself coming back to it constantly for quick little adventures.

This is very much a sandbox to play in. The threadbare story and campaign (such as it is) is merely the seasoning to give the proper game a little bit of zest. The best stories in this game are the ones you imagine for your characters, the situations that they inevitably find themselves in, and the means by which they (sometimes) succeed in those situations. Using the wrong tools for the job leads to the best entertainment this game has to offer.

Review update after the Anniversary Update:
I still love this game. I still find myself coming back to it constantly for quick little adventures.

The replayability of this game has increased exponentially now. The new random character traits give you a brand new springboard to leap into the fray with, including some pretty challenging achievements to chase down. The new enemies and ship security features now force you to think outside the box a lot more to complete your missions, but you still have the option of picking missions that exclude any of the new obstacles.

The only thing I didn't care for in this update is the leaderboard for the daily challenges. No matter how good or clever or proud of a run I think I am, the leaderboard is always there to remind me that I'm just barely shy of needing to be watered twice a week.
