This game had its claws in me the moment I laid eyes on it. I love the gameplay lifted straight from Resident Evil, and the thought provoking puzzles and radio mechanics pried from Silent Hill. I love the information that's both drip fed to you via dialogue and notes, then shotgunned blasted into your face via sudden cutscenes and dream sequences. I reached the final sequence not knowing what had or was truly taking place, but somehow I cried in the end - the game still clearly conveyed its themes and intent, all framed in the composer's take on Chopin's Raindrop Prelude.

I have some nitpicks here and there, but for the most part I adore it. The one real problem it has is the overly restrictive inventory size of only 6 items. After some thought, I ended up modding it to 8, which in my case ended up improving the game flow for me.

Regardless, if you've the mindset for Signalis, you'll find a mind-bending, yet visceral experience that wears its survival horror influences on its sleeve, blended with a wonderful setting that uses 80's retrofuturism and themes lifted from Lovecraftian and even the likes of Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell to tell a cryptic but ultimately humanistic story.
