The good:
- Very strong story, as is with most Tales games. This one has more of a James Cameron Avatar/Pocahontas - type story
- Good character design, although they could have laid back on the "friendship" trope and focused more on the actual plot.
- Most locations look very beautiful, have a lot of personality to them, and visually + audibly communicates what the location is about

The bad:
- Combat is terrible:
- when an enemy is knocked down, You cannot do damage to them. This is essentially a time waster for both parties aside from the utility for repositioning
- Limit break knocks the enemy down for like 1/3 of the limit break duration which does not feel good at all when you cant do damage during that time. You can also be CC'd during limit break which eats into what's left in the timer
- Attacks won't register sometimes for short or flying enemies
- It is very easy to fall behind in levels, especially at boss fights. I found myself just sitting at Easy mode most of the time in order to save as much of my time as possible from grinding to match the levels.
- Difficulty literally just makes the enemies damage sponges and deal more damage, nothing particularly interesting outside of level and gear checks
- Dungeon design is not particularly interesting, and can get confusing at times
- the "Confirm/Talk/Interact" button stops working at certain points, which bricks the game's progression until you restart the game. This is especially bad since you can't save without that button working, which results in some lost progress since last save (This issue might be Steam Deck specific though, since I didn't experience it on my main PC).

Overall, It holds up quite well for a game originally released in 2008. If you can stomach some of the technical issues and game mechanics that did not age well, you will be in for a good ride for the story.

The good:
- Story is really well written. A story that can get you to question morality and philosophy is few and far between. Even if the major plot point of the antagonist is cliche (many anime stories including Naruto explore the "peace at the cost of society's free will" idea) , I rather enjoyed the world and character building for that minor thing to bother me.
- The anime cutscenes, 3d cutscenes, and popover slideshow cutscenes are really enjoyable and refreshing
- Most (if not all) of the combat skills are character-unique and fully voiced, and you get to see some really cool character-specific cutscenes for their ultimate abilities during combat (including main story bosses)
- no bugs at all from a full playthrough

The bad:
- The combat itself can get rather repetitive, so I found myself playing on auto halfway through the game
- Some monsters can stunlock you without any windup until you're dead, so no skill-based counterplay at all
- The level balancing gets really terrible in some places. For example, the monsters outside of Palamides Temple are around level 22, but the monsters inside the temple are around level 30. So, you'll find yourself extremely underlevelled around that part of the game.
- The surfing mechanic gets introduced way too late into the game, and feels very clunky to use.
- Navigation system is rather unintuitive/outdated for a game released in 2016-2017
- The orb collect-a-thon for the cat boxes put in a lot of visual clutter in all the environments for very little reward (only half of the boxes give you cosmetics and only few actually look good).

Overall, the story outshines the glaring gameplay flaws of the game, and I really enjoyed all the cutscenes and dialogue the game had to offer. I strongly recommend playing through the whole thing at least once as it is quite the experience.

Early Access Review
A mix of Binding of Isaac, Nuclear Throne, and Enter the Gungeon gameplay mechanics, with character + monster + boss designs inspired by the Souls series, Dota, and classic Legend of Zelda titles.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes outside of Early Access!

Played the game for 8 hours straight without eating (as an overweight person) but then my character died so I quit. A good alternative to weightwatchers. 10/10

If this game were a woman, I would marry her and have 4 kids with her.
