Right out the gate, game crashes more than a prototype 17th century flying machine.

Developers put out updates but it seemed nothing was about performance, only some game play tweaks and changes. Some things about fixing soft-locks in quest.

Truthfully though, you can enjoy the game as-is if it wasn't for the performance problems. Every time I found myself becoming immersed and starting to have real fun that only open-world games can give, I get a error and a crash and I'm sucked out of it.

The game is not perfect, it definitly felt like it was made on a schedule with no chance to get the love it deserves. But it's fun regardless and I would still call it a good game IF ONLY IT DID NOT HAVE THESE PERFORMANCE ISSUES.

Great little game.
Fun to have a co-operative dungeon crawler.
Looking forward to future games.

After playing this game for a little bit, most of my fears for it started to become a reality. The game was designed with a specific way to play in mind and certain parts seemed to be added as a requirement rather than an intended and cared for feature.

Gameplay:
After playing a short bit into the game, I realized this was a colour matching game.
Oh, that enemy has regeneration abilities and is very green? Green magic shreds regen abilities.
Oh, that enemy tends to stay far away, uses shields and ranged attacks, and looks very blue? Use blue magic against them.
I never, made it to finding out what the short ranged red magic is particularly good against, but following the pattern would suggest red enemies that get in your face would likely be weak to my red magic.

I could potentially get past this drawback to the gameplay if switching between magic types felt smooth, but I am used to being able to switch weapons by using the number keys, but theses were assigned to other bigger spell uses. So when suddenly there is an enemy up close and I would like to switch from green to red magic, I feel like I fumble through my magical gauntlets to try to get to what I'm trying to cast.

There is a levelling system and upgrade system that I felt wasn't well thought out, or at least the gameplay made it feel like a necessity rather than something exciting to do. Because you are encouraged (read: darn near forced) to use all forms of magic offered to you, it doesn't feel like you can focus on a "build" and rather, are just trying to strengthen the magic type that feels the weakest for you at the moment. Because you have to use all three types of magic, and if you ignore a type in levelling or upgrading, it feels like your choice in how you play the game has been decided for you, and there's no way for any individual player to truly express their style of play.

A lot of levels are obviously designed to encourage you to come back with new skills, but once you've been through an area, it just feels like a chore to return and play some more there. Not to mention the [i[ rewards feel quaint compared to the time spent treading off a beaten path. [/i]

Story:
The characters in this game suffer from what a lot of characters in any media seem to suffer from lately, and that is a shallow one-dimensional personality and almost too-predictable actions. (I will say I enjoyed the general character that recruits you, she was portrayed well by her voice actor and her dialogue was written well I felt.) Having flat talk to you almost constantly during story missions makes whatever is being explained a slog to get through, and ultimately uninteresting.

Art and Environment:
The areas in this game are absolutely gorgeous, and the designs of enemies and characters felt inspired. Things sometimes felt too clean, which is weird for me to complain about because usually my complaint is that designers use too much clutter and litter and everything looks too warn down, but this place looks a little too perfect sometimes in my opinion.
After exploring a little bit, I came too realize that the environment I was in often felt very abandoned. There's very little environmental storytelling to explain areas much, like why one town is absolutely bustling but the next town over is abandoned. Yes I may find enemies there but it's like playing a doom level when I get ambushed and I don't find the exploration exciting. I mostly explored levels because of my fear of not having enough upgrade material.

Early Access Review
Game falls short on many aspects for me.

-Gameplay just isn't fun. This amounts to:

-Lackluster driving mechanics

-Destroying enemies doesn't feel like a meaningful thing.

-Many guns don't feel like they're doing anything other than lowering the enemy hitpoints (Which I get is the point, but
other vehicle based games just seem to convey more of an impact somehow?)

-The different vehicle mechanics are unexplained. Apparently there's a vehicle that can heal allies but it's not conveyed in
any menus I saw.

MICRO-TRANSACTIONS DAY 1 DURING EARLY ACCESS

-I understand it's a free game, so micro-transactions is how they're going to make money, but the amount of
micro-transactions available compared to what's there to play, or even effort put into the menus definitely shows that
they expect folks to put money into a game the devs put minimal effort into.

-It really seems like early access for either the publisher or developer or both is just an excuse to put out a half-finished
mess and still rake in the dough.

-Battle Pass during early access in diabolical. I understand it's a free game, but it's early access and forcing folks to play a
game for rewards they paid for when you know there is going to be bugs and issues is wild. I can forgive the other
microtransactions, since you get what you paid for immediately, but a battle pass on day 1 early access is unforgivable.

Honestly a lot of good fun.
There are objectives and Sub-objectives in each mission that you get rewards for completing.
The planning and thought that goes into an operation before and during does feel like it pays off if you pay attention to what you're doing. Team-work feels good when it happens. All around a fun time.

Despite the simple gameplay, I had a lot of fun playing this game.
You build a deck with cards you unlock by progressing through the game. Depending on how you place them around the loop (which is randomize'd each time) you can create new tiles that you cannot get in your deck.

The game does feel a bit empty. Upon writing this I have just beat the final boss for the first time. I still think it's worth buying the game, but I would love to see more content added. There are a couple things in the game that teases the idea of new content.

As a story drivien game, Tales from the Borderlands has it down pat.
With excellent dialogue (Though, your options are not what you would always go with, it gives you a sense of the character you're playing. After all, that's not you.) and memerable characters, all packed together and tied with a borderlands style wrapping paper.

It's easy to get invested in the characters.
If you're looking to listen to a story, there's a lot to be told here.

I played to about 160 years into the game.
I have to say everytime I played through some combat or finished a thing in the timeline I would say "Ok but when you're done this go to bed."
Guess who stayed up hours past the time they intended to sleep and only got 45 minutes worth?
Me.

Hand of Fate, I recommend this game.

Hand of Fate offers a controlled rogue-like experince.
You build your own deck of possible encounters, some are more diffacult than others, but can offer a great reward.
Something about earning new cards excited me greatly.
As I played through I've found that the randomness tends to fade away; not that it's still there, but more, if you leave the same encounter card in your deck you start to realize what options to choose in order to get the greatest reward. But it's all in your control for the most part so really that's up to the player.

Also, the wizard man gets his own deck. This will add cards to ♥♥♥♥ up your day. Rediculous cards that will make you want to cry. But without the wizard man there is no point in building your own deck to make you as powerfull as you can.

That's when luck starts to take effect. When it seems like all you do is run into the wizard man's cards, you won't be able to build up equipment on your character as easily, or at all. I've made it a few floors without gaining any gear.

However in the end the wizard man's cards, your cards, and the choices you make as you crawl and battle your way thrtough the floors creates a very rewarding experince.

8/10.

Also they seem to add some free stories/cards to play from time to time. So it's hard to complain about lack of content. Good on the developers, eh?
