Extremely fun after the patches, one of the most pleasant experiences with fantasy recently. It has its issues, but they are far outmatched by the positives. Definitely worth the price.

An ideal mix between simple and complex. Back when CA knew how to make good, well-priced games...

The game is praised a lot by people who left Tarkov for it. And I can see the point, Tarkov being overall not fun for a lot of people. The formula of Hunt is exciting and really nice. The game has an unique style and can bring a lot of joy.

However, this review is for Steam and you're probably wondering if you should spend money on Hunt. The answer is no, unless you don't mind a technical hellscape this game has become over the course of 4 years. It's difficult to find a game with such little love given to it from the developers. Crytek takes on average 3 to 4 years to fix a single bug in game - a bug that can be breaking. The game doesn't even have a properly working reconnect option. The servers regularly stutter, lag or just outright die. You can get used to these, but it's painful and... is it worth your nerves?

Also, the game has cheaters problem. The identical case as in PUBG - if you see players with chinese letters as their nicknames, expect suspicious performance from them. Also expect to meet people 3-4 tiers above you, as you start your first game - the MMR system is broken and matchmaking is a tragedy. The Avtomat is still a thing and despite 90% of the community resenting it, Crytek doesn't care. Crytek won't care about you if you buy this game. They don't deserve your money in my opinion.

UPDATED AS OF 2025: Two years later not much has changed, ahahaha. Except they added a new horrible UI and keep refusing to listen to player feedback, forcing some poor ass changes nobody wants.

Very fun, simple game with many challenges and great potential for replayability. It's exactly what you would expect and doesn't try to be more than it promises.

Do NOT buy this game. This is a huge scam and a step-down from Men of War: Assault Squad 2. The UI, AI, squad control and tool using is still complete garbage, if not worse compared to the previous game.

Early Access Review
So, Wartales. This game is IMO one of the games with the biggest potential for 2022. When I bought this game, I hoped that the devs will be supported by my money and spend it to keep updating Wartales. And boy, I am not disappointed at all.

So, let's start with the cons. I will mark the features that devs promised to fix in the future with a star at the end. So:
- This is, obviously, early access game. You won't get a full 5000-hour gameplay experience as of now (19.05.22). There is still enough content to come back and play once every new patch is out there.*
- Still, the replayability is not as high as it could be. A lot of the content is still pre-determined instead of being randomly generated.*
- The AI is... well, mostly poor. The enemies have the tactical sense and use their abilities mostly to the best of their abilities. However, they completely lack sense of strategy - they easily get lured into obvious traps, simply follow your closest fititng targets, etc.
- Lack of proper music and ambience.
- Some of the encounters are unbalanced when it comes to difficulty and posibilies of evading them.*
- Minor mechanism like three-party battles, movement around corners on the strategic map, etc.
- The story, even though it's just a background for questing, is still a bit lackluster.*

Now, to the pros:
- Pleasure from combat. The combat system supports tactical thinking and gives you a lot of options to affect the outcome
- Customization. Each character has an assigned fighting class and each of these has its own, small, but very fun to explore skill tree. Oh, and each weapon has its own attack type. Oh, and you can upgrade each different skill you have. Oh, and you can customize most of the armors. Oh, you can also teach each character some common skills...
- The game is very, very pretty. Animations are really nice and there's a lot of them for each kind of a finishing move. Each hit really makes you feel its impact and the game isn't afraid to show some violence.
- The economy feels balanced. It's not *that* difficult to earn some money, but there's always something to spend it on.
- Simple and pleasant crafting
- Many, many options to customize your type of company - you can choose your bonuses for battles, perks for strategic bonuses, etc.
- Many types of crafting and resource gathering, such as mining and fishing, have their own, simple and fun minigame.
Now, for probably the greates pro of the game:
- The devs actually listen to player feedback. The list of cons would be much, much longer a while ago, but every patch it shrinks alot. Every single patch and hotfix fixes many bugs reported by the community.
- The game has a clear roadmap of updates and Shiro Games follow it, so you always know whats coming next.
- The game is constantly updated with new features to enjoy, many of which are suggested by the community.
- The communication between the devs and the community is really, really clear.

Aside from that, there are also few minor pros worth mentioning:
- Point 'n' click-ey interaction with locations
- Different endings for quests. Even though the plot is not really interesting most of the time, it's still nice to have this choice.
- You can bribe wild animal packs attacking your party.
- You can catch wild animals and make them your pets. Even big hogs!
- Environment can be used in battles for additional combat options
- There's a lot of things you can craft, even if you don't need them all

Overall, Wartales is a really, really pleasant game. What's even more important, is that it's an example that not all game devs are scammers that make the bare minimum for their game. When I paid for the game, I was worried that this pleasant experience might disappear one day, but so far it seems to be far away from that. I wonder what the game will look like on the full release, and honestly - I can't wait.

I consider spending my money on this game definitely worth it.
