Peak fiction. Unironically,

Seriously, the first game had me intrigued and I love conspiracy stories but the slow pace made it hard to stay motivated.

But this game kicked ass.

Genuinely, I am stunned by what I just experienced, the voice acting (used skyinstaller) was stellar, the story post-chapter 3 had me addicted and got tears out of me, and every single chapter after 5 could've been the story's end, but they kept on giving more and more and more.

This may be one of the greatest JRPGs I've ever experienced. Ever. And I've played a lot. Turbo mode messes up Steam hours though :(

I like to think that I have grown as a person and a man. Yet, even as an adult, I am still scared to play COD Zombies alone.

Black Isle, BioWare, Troika (although short-lived), and Obsidian have all proven themselves as the kings of the CRPG genre at various points. Though far from their peak, Obsidian is still great. That being said, Larian has seized the crown with BG3. Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 are excellent games with incredible gameplay and combat, but BG3 trumps them.

I never thought 5e would have me so excited.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!

Alright, it's been four months since finishing the remake, so I suppose I should write a proper review:

Reload is a wonderful remake of one of the greatest JRPGs of all time. While some of the emotional moments that deeply resonated with me in the original game fell somewhat flat, like
really, really flat.

Reload still offers a great experience. Remarkably, it provides the best rendition of P3's ending yet. Yes, it even surpasses 'Winter of Rebirth's version.

But Kotone best girl so two out of ten.

There is a lot I could say about this game, but I have only two things to say:

What I've already said on Reddit:

"This is definitely the first time I've finished an RGG title being hyped up rather than in tears. Seeing Haruka right at the end, with Haruto as well, and that achievement title, "The man who regained his name..." dude, I'm still stunned. In the last 12 months, we've gotten an incredible remake (Ishin,) an incredible spin off (Gaiden) and an incredible eight entry to the series."

And also: The bucket list was total blue balling man... especially the last one. Although, the post-credit scene worked well to end my frustrations.

(proof read, October 7th, 2024):

Staying true to the Dragon of Dojima's fighting style, the game maintains the traditional Yakuza combat format of a 'beat 'em up.'

While the combat is solid, Lost Judgment's combat system is still superior in my opinion.
The story starts slow, with the first two-thirds feeling like filler, but it picks up towards the end, delivering the emotional depth Yakuza/RGG fans crave. I was hoping for the darker tone seen in Like a Dragon and the Judgment series to continue, but overall, it was worth the wait. The ending left me in tears like a baby.

Looking forward, I hope RGG 8: Infinite Wealth will be powerful enough to evoke another emotional breakdown. Infinite Wealth (special trial) has somehow perfected modern. turn-based combat.

Also, we can do Kiryu karaoke once more. 10/10.

(Proofreading my embarrassing spelling mistakes: April 2024)

Study medieval history in university. Tell yourself, "I'd be a chad in a medieval world." Start playing. Get addicted. Keep getting defeated over and over. Use cheat mods to get a ton of money. Build an incredible army. Accidentally click surrender. Lose it all. Rage quit. Repeat.

I have two essays due by the end of next week... Won't stop playing anyway.

Update P.S. My essay was fire.

Kiryu travels back in time to start a rebellion because someone hit a woman. What a chad.

All joking aside, I've only played the beginning, and I have no regrets regarding my pre-order.

Now that I've finished the story, I'll give this review some value. This game appealed to me on three levels: It's an RGG game, it follows a historical period I study, and Majima. This game was my first RGG pre-order, thus the first Yakuza/Like a Dragon title I've played launch day. The game is great; the story started off a bit slow, but that's typical for most Yakuza games. It was around the 10-hour mark that I got really hooked, and it kept me engaged throughout the rest of the game.

The pacing is consistent with most RGG games, so I'm happy with that. The story was great; I loved seeing the classic tale of Sakamoto Ryoma being adapted by RGG in such a way as to pay great respect to the man while also telling an independent story. If you're a Yakuza fan, no excuses, get the game!

Oh yeah, finally, Haruka's trust doesn't cause mental breakdowns in this game, so yeah, another common RGG win.
