Cool style, but annoying gameplay

This is a small game in the style of old samurai movies. A story about love, duty, revenge and all that. Decent voice acting and soundtrack. Simple game mechanics: run around the level and cut up enemies using different combos. In general, it all comes down to combining weak attacks, strong attacks and block. And now, to the bad.

The combat system can be inconsistent and annoying. It can be hard to predict the attacks of enemies, and even harder to understand when to use a block and when to swing a sword. Be prepared for the fact that stinking bandits with less health than you will kill you dozens of times. In the end, it will all come down to the fact that you will use 2-3 combos on a constant basis to run through the level faster.

Also, the save system is unforgivably bad. Let's leave the point-saving and no-autosave nonsense in the past, okay? Please? It's not cool when you save, go through 3 fights, and then die before you can get to the next save. And wow, you have to go through all those linear fights again, and sometimes even short cutscenes.

With all these flaws, the whole samurai charm of this game somehow flies away quickly. What a shame.

Stylish, atmospheric, dark and slightly flawed game.

If you are a fan of horror games in the style of the old Resident Evil or Silent Hill, where an intriguing story comes first, then this game is for you. Others may be put off by the gameplay.

Pros:
  • Unique style. The combination of black and white colors is very cool. For most of the game, the only source of light will be your matches, and this is played very well. I wonder if the developers were inspired by the French animated film Peur(s) du noir.
  • Level design is well thought out. You will gradually move through a creepy house with a lot of interesting details, sometimes solving puzzles.
  • A well-written story that touches on themes of the Great Depression, mental illness, family ties and related issues + A murder mystery. The story is mostly told through notes, but damn, they're really interesting to read.
Cons:
  • A little tanky controls. This isn't a problem for me personally, considering I grew up playing the old PS1 horror games. When the game changes the camera angle, especially when you're running away from danger, the controls can fail, sending you in the wrong direction. Objectively, this is a problem.
  • The save system also borrowed a flaw from older games. You can only save in certain places (chairs), and if you die or forget to save, you can lose a lot of progress.

Overall, this is a good indie horror game with a dark and interesting story and great atmosphere. It's memorable, that's for sure.

A small escape-room-horror-game. We play as a girl kidnapped by some freak with a hammer. The usual stuff: find an item, open a door, hide, figure out how to escape, etc. There are some hints of a creepy mystery, but nothing more in terms of story.

Simple and interesting graphics style, a little bit of gore. I ran into a couple bugs, but nothing too terrible. Once an item fell through the floor, and another time I was stuck in place and couldn't do anything. The controls are a bit clunky with picking up items.

I guess this is the first game by this developer. Hey, everyone starts somewhere. It's a simple good game made with effort. I hope the developer makes something else in this style, but bigger and better.
