The basic mechanics are solid, but the game lacks online multiplayer. The game is kinda of a mix between Mario Kart 64 and Top Gear. It's a nice concept for an arcade racing gaming and I had some fun, but the fun won't last long w/o online multiplayer. I got a refund for the game. If they add online multiplayer, I'll buy the game again (and not ask for a refund). As it is (w/o online multiplayer), I see no reason to get invested into this game.

It took me a lot of time trying to understand what exactly wasn't enjoyable about this game. I mean, I wasn't having any fun at all, but if I tried to break the game down into pieces, each piece was okayish enough (graphics were okay, story was okay, basic mechanics seemed okay). After quite some time I understood what was lacking. The game is a shooter (with very light elements of the survival genre). As a shooter game, I don't enjoy it. It was made to play comfortably on consoles (no precise aiming, no real challenge). To make matters worse, the pace of the shooting (so the pace of the game, actually) is constantly interrupted. For instance, if I'm killing some boss, but the boss has a certain number of phases and I don't know if I'm just wasting bullets until the next phase is unlocking or I'm still doing actual damage. The pace is interrupted. There are more examples, such as interruptions for walking, quick-time events, and story that I don't really care about. There isn't free exploration (which per se isn't really a problem), and the scenery is too dark for me to bother about it.

If I ever make a game, I'll try to look back at this one as how to have many separate good things (good graphics, okayish story, etc), and still suck as game (if the game is primarily challenging you as a shooter, make sure this part fun). If you're looking for a zombie game, just go for Left 4 Dead 2.

It reminds me a lot of Zelda Majora's Mask. The feeling of adventure and puzzle-solving that I always had when playing peak Zelda games is also present here. One could say Zelda and Outer Wilds are nothing alike (for instance, where are the Zelda bosses at the end of each dungeon?), but as I've said, the *feeling* of exploration by puzzle-solving is here, and I think that was the most important trait in peak Zelda games.

Outer Wilds enjoys skillfully designed maps (especially the DLC) which is also something I saw a lot in old Zelda games. Anyways, nowadays it's very hard to find the gap left by peak Zelda games. I think after so many many many years I finally found a game to fill this gap. Best wishes for the Outer Wild developers so they can keep designing awesome games.

The basic mechanics are good, but the game lacks variety. I'd have high hopes for an upcoming title in the same series, but I'd never spend further time in the current iteration (Furious Racing) of the series.

The very first maps are far too easy and don't seem promising, but the game does evolve quickly to meet the bar for gamers that are looking for a challenging platform game involving precision, fast-paced small/quick levels. The cable mechanic allows you to perform what other games offer as “double jumps”, but requiring some level of mastery which increases the difficult.

The level design is good and definitely helps to showcase the game mechanics. Most of the levels also offer collectable items that require mastery of the game mechanics to reach them. Casual gamers can complete the game ignoring these items, but they're there for pro gamers who would find the game too easy w/o hard challenges otherwise.

There's not only quality level design, but also quantity. So there's plenty of time to master each mechanic. However new mechanics are introduced when your character find “cartridges” (the game term for permanent power-ups). Once power-ups are acquired, new maps become accessible. The power-ups change the mechanics and the levels to make the game feel fresh even in the face of so many levels to play. Old powerups are still useful (and required) for many levels ahead just showing how the developers are very skilled at level design in platforming games. Not only quality, but also quantity. Quantity, but in a way that doesn't getting boring (new mechanics help to keep the game somewhat fresh even with too many levels).

Some levels also feature multiple exits allowing access to secret areas that offer even more challenges.

I do suggest a gamepad with good analogs to play. Most 2D platforming games only make real use of a D-pad, but this one is different. For aiming the cable at the walls (or aiming flight for one of the power-ups that you unlock), good analogs help. There's some sort of auto-aiming, but good analogs will only help.

If you're a really casual game you can change the game speed in the settings to make the game easier (you can choose a speed between 20 to 100% in steps of 10).

There are so many good platforming games nowadays that I don't see a reason why you'd ever want to play a game that don't go beyond the very basics. If you like the aesthetics (check the trailer) and only care about that, maybe this game is for you.

That's not a game. There's no mechanics there to classify it as a game. There's no challenge, there's no decision-making process, there's hardly any interaction, there's no skill involved at any step. It's an interactive boring story, and that's about it. Garbage “game”.

I'm really disappointed. For a platform gaming, the mechanics for character movement + physics must be the most polished thing ever. Second most important thing in this genre is level design. 30XX lacks BOTH. And they could just mirror the original game they tried to copy to have them on point, so they're bad even at copying a good game. Old time Megaman fans will quickly notice the mechanics for climbing (+ dash climbing) are not polished enough and harder to master a maximum distance jump horizontally. Some differences don't matter as they're just different games, but the mechanics must be polished (they aren't). A fluid movement & paranoiacally polished input mechanics is essential for a platform gaming (sorry for repeating myself in this review, but this is just the BASICS for this genre... something that I really expect to have it right). How can you get the basics wrong and expect to have a good game?

Let's move to the second most important thing in a platform gaming then? Level design. Well... nothing interesting to see. It's just so boring. There's nothing really to talk about. Even in bad games, I never thought of using Steam refund before, but this one disappointed me so much that I'll reach for the support to see the rules for game refund here. Just avoid this game.
