I'm a longtime tekken fan and this was an incredible entry into the series. The lore/story mode is the best they've ever made, with most of the beloved characters included and some nostalgic easter eggs from previous games whilst managing to incorporate some fresh faces. The "power of friendship" narrative sounds corny, but was written in such a way that was really enjoyable. My only criticism is that the tournament preliminaries felt a little rushed. I also really like where the Reina storyline is going, however I'm a little disappointed that they recycled the idea of Heihachi having ANOTHER illegitimate child. I think it would have been cooler if she was a product of a science experiment or something.

I think it's very welcoming for beginners and has indepth training tools for new challengers and returning players. Bandai Namco kept the blueprint of movement, blocking, punishing, spacing etc but introduced 2 new significant mechanics: heat system and health recovery. This makes gameplay a lot more aggressive rather than defensive.

Personally I don't have a problem with the devs introducing microtransactions. It's £3 for legacy cosmetics which I think is very fairly priced, and there's still lots of free cosmetics to be unlocked through playing arcade mode. Arcade quest is a super fun single player option that helps you learn along the way, sort of like a tutorial for what to expect when you play online.

The OST is just as good as it ever was, leaning into the usual trance and EDM. Jukebox allows you to customise and replace the music as you want, and access classic soundtracks from the past.

Overall I think they really honoured the franchise by acknowledging the past and looking to the future.

save your money, this game is nothing but a cash grab. go and enjoy the telltale games instead if youre a fan of TWD. it runs like a goofy xbox 360 game hack and slash, if you couldnt remap controls or change graphic settings. you can't even navigate the main menu with a mouse (WASD only). the cut scenes are like a powerpoint presentation slideshow, which would be fine if the art went beyond something i'd expect in 2004. a great project fell into the hands of the wrong developer with no money. only buy this if it's on sale for <£10. i got this ♥♥♥♥ for free as a gift and it's still not worth it
