It's always great to play a game made by people who are fans of what they're working on, and this game definitely shines with that quality. The creators of this game wanted to avoid the mid 2000s problem of "any game based on a movie is bad" so they went all out making sure this game could stand on its own. The environment, music, and tone of the game really nails the same feel the 1982 Tron had while updating it to what you'd expect if Tron was set in the early 2000s. There's a lot of callbacks to the movie but none of them really jump down your throat, they're done very organically and tactfully. This game has a very unique arsenal of weapons (though I mostly found myself using the Repeater disc) and some oddly creative systems that, if paired with a few more RPG elements, could qualify this game as a lite imsim.

I think the biggest problem with this game (besides the Light Cycle segments being awful, that camera, jesus) is that it's really old and doesn't want to cooperate with modern systems. For a long time I never even finished the game despite enjoying it because of how much of a hassle it was to run, even with the Killer App mod which IS PRACTICALLY ESSENTIAL if you want to play the game now due to the fixes and resolution support, since I would constantly crash or have graphical errors I wasn't in the mood to fix. Thankfully, I had no issues with my last run, and was finally able to beat the game and give it a proper recommendation.
