Did I enjoy my time with this version of the game, getting all the achievements? Yeah. Do I regret spending 30 dollars on it? Not particularly, I am happy to support Nightdive, I think the work they're doing is great. But do I think this is worth spending 30 dollars on? No. Especially not when the original is 10.

I have played system shock 2 countless times and I think this is a good remaster, and the updated models and cutscenes are the most faithful we've seen yet, and look amazing. While I think they looked out of place in trailers, when getting around to actually playing the game I think they fit right in and work better than anything else like it you can get. Of course, I did have a few issues, there are some graphic issues the original never had like Z clipping and windows with decals drawing the decal behind objects, and the worst of all is the music system being completely broken. Some music plays significantly delayed or never at all, some play in backwards order (areas where the music isn't supposed to play are the only areas where it does play), and overall it harms the experience a lot for me.

I think the worst thing about the $30 price tag is the fact that a significant portion of the actual improvements to this game are based on fan mods that are completely free, namely the mods Four Hundred, SHTUP (Shock Texture Upgrade), and SCP (Shock Community Patch). This means that you can simply buy the original, save 20 dollars, and simply do a small amount of work downloading a few mods to get an identical gameplay experience, an improved auditory experience (with the music actually working, and while EAX audio takes a bit more work to get working, it sounds better in the end if you want to go through with that), but unfortunately you don't get the amazing models and cutscenes, which honestly isn't a big deal for someone like me. The atmosphere remains the same if not better when modded, so you basically only lose out on a bit of the graphics.

If you want to buy this game, I think if you're going to get it on a console I think it's a pretty good decision either way (although i still think the price is a bit too high either way), but on steam I don't think it's worth it over the original game. When the price (hopefully) gets lower and they patch out whatever bugs that they have right now, this game will eventually be a good deal, but with the current pricing, I cannot recommend it.

I would like to also add, I think this should be given to original owners of the game, instead of being a separate title. Of course I don't think that would happen now, so I think that the games should be bundled together going forward and a discount should be given to original owners.

great game, but a bad port with some performance issues. any reflections above medium look absolutely atrocious due to the noisy screen space ray traced reflections. i didn't personally notice the traversal stutters cause i'm running a 75hz display on this game where it can often times reach 2x my refresh rate, but what i did notice is the absolutely atrocious performance in cutscenes, at times going from 160fps to 6 by just going into them. other times this sort of thing happens is when taking the tram, and the poor performance will stay after the cutscenes. thankfully you can alt tab and wait for a bit and the performance comes back, but this doesn't seem to work well in the cutscenes themselves so you might end up having to rewatch them on youtube.

the game itself is awesome so i'll still recommend it, but these performance issues can be a real deal breaker for some. if steam had something in between recommend or don't, it'd be the middle.
