Recommended, but not as engaging as you might think.

Very cool for the first few hours-lots to do. But after about 15-20 hours you've seen all there is to see, done all there is to do. The rest is just different palettes or permutations of what came before. This applies to everything, from planets to ships. Other games do exploration, survival and base building better.

NMS does all these simultaneously, on a larger scale, albeit in a shallow way. The game has come a long way over the years and the content patches are nice. But they never address the core game play loop - there isn't much of one...there never was. A little more fun can be had playing with friends. Until that too grows stale quickly.

You should definitely get this and experience it when on sale, a solid 20-30 hour game within. But there's not much play or replay value beyond that. The procedural generation is superfluous, repetitive and it permeates all aspects of this game.

Started as a stinker on launch; now worth playing after numerous major updates but it can't go beyond that because the core foundation is limited. They would have to scrap everything and start with a fresh concept for it to get better than it is right now. It's all just window dressing and cherries thrown on top of the cake from here on in. Still worth exploring for a few days. But don't get too excited.

I had to draw the line somewhere. The game itself is great, much of the DLC makes it even better. But I can't justify comitting to this purchase for anyone, the milking is real. Paradox has a terrible expansion/DLC policy, aka overpriced, for mechanics and features that are accessible via mods for free. This is unethical or something. Don't partake.
