This version of BB has become an attempt to milk players for customization and the season pass introduced an element of "grind now or the season pass rewards are gone for good" in contrast to what they have said on their FAQ.

Quoting them:
"5- Items from previous seasons
After a season ends, you will have another chance to get the Blood Pass items from that season. We want to give you the chance to acquire the cosmetic items you want.
This goes without saying, but the same logic applies to the Faction of the Season. You will always be able to obtain all the Factions that are playable in the game."

That was posted on the official site at https://www.bloodbowl-thegame.com/single-blog/5

Since then I believe they have taken this down but you can access it though the internet time machine using https://web.archive.org/

What I expected was a way to buy the previous season passes and work them at our own pace (kinda like the way Gwent handled it's season passes), including seasons that you have already bought on their release. Instead if you don't complete the game pass you have to track down and pay (again) individual cosmetics.

All in all I was excited by the BB3 release and the use of the updated rules for BB, but the mentality of the devs seems to match that of GW: "Buy fast and rush to get stuff because it is going away!"

Not recommended.

Excellent squad turn based game. VERY reminiscent of old sci-fi comic books art. It looks awesome.

Doesn't waste your time with pointless grind. Actually different and varied builds for each class. Diablo-style loot. Quests with some thought put into writing them. DD is nice but it could learn a few things from DSD.

Highly recommended.

A super adaptation of the board game.

Starts out rather random as two novices rely too much on the "Yomi" aspect of trying to outguess each other.

Evolves into a game of valuation. A player who knows the value of each play at any given time, and what his character's ideal move distributions are in a given matchup, will crush an opponent who does not.

And then finally, at an expert level, the mind-games and randomness aspect is rolled back in, but now in a much more satisfying way -- because the lines between an optimal move and a bad one are blurred. If both you and your opponent know the optimal move at any given time, and every move in the game can be countered if it can be predicted... then is it really the optimal move?

The answer lies in the middle ground. This game, at its highest level, becomes a mix of both Yomi (reading your opponent) AND valuation (judging the current game state correctly while planning future turns), so the designer absolutely accomplished his goals.

And it's a good thing, because this game relies on both of those elements. Without the valuation, it becomes a random game. And without the Yomi, it becomes repetitive and scripted.

The human element ensures that the game does not get stale, while the ever-changing game state challenges you to analyze abilities and known information to find the best move on any given turn... and then decide whether you want to use it, play it safe, or counter its counter.

An excellent port from the tabletop version of the game (LRB6 rules).

If you play this and think it's an RNG fest, you just don't know how to play this game!

"EDIT 02"
Just found out a whole DLC is on it's way and that means that the game is still supported by the devs. In light of that I am changing my recommendation and I am installing it (up to now I've been hot seating it with my bro).

"EDIT 01"
Although my old review of the game stands regarding the announcement of the developers that they will move on to a new game, in the meanwhile they provided a free DLC (and bug fixing patches as they have promised).

So although I still would not reccomend it, I would suggest that you watch a few youtube videos and decide if you like what it offers (I believe you can can enjoy it, just do not expect major improvements/additions, although that free DLC show otherwise!).

In case the developers continue to add stuff ingame and provide bugfixes I will definitely change my review to positive.

"OLD REVIEW"
The game devs just announced they stopped further development and they are moving on to their next game. That's after a grand total of 3 months after release (end of March 2017 - mid June 2017).

This smells like a moneygrab scheme that is hiding behind the "we released the game, play it as it is tyvm" theme counting on early access sales to justify their existence.

DO NOT support their next early access "scam" (better yet do not support them even after they release).

Wasted potential.
