The Swedish team had been tipped to undergo changes following a disappointing 5th-8th place finish at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca, where a loss against Luminosity Gaming in the group stage put them up against EnVyUs in the quarter-final stage.

This is the first roster change for fnatic since June 2014, when the team picked up Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson and Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer. The double swoop produced immediate results, with the team becoming the first side in history to win back-to-back major titles after taking the crown at ESL One Katowice and ESL One Cologne 2015.

But the team's latest results had been less than impressive, resulting in the departure of Markus "pronax" Wallsten, who had come under fire for his recent performances.

The 24-year-old, who had curiously joined fnatic exactly two years ago today, has decided to take a break from gaming before deciding his next move, with Robin "flusha" Rönnquist taking over as ingame leader.

"It is with a tear in my eye that we announce that Markus will no longer be playing in the team," Jesper "JW" Wecksell said in a statement.

"We have shared so much together; winning three majors, winning multiple tournaments and maybe more importantly, we have had thousands of hours of fun together.

"As you the fans probably know, we have been going through a rough time lately and Markus wanted to try out new things in 2016 and walk a different road than the team.

"We respect his decision, but we also came to the conclusion that it is meaningless trying to repair our in-game struggles when we are not committing together for the upcoming year.

"But now! It is with pleasure that I welcome our new player dennis, that we all pretty quickly agreed would be the last piece of the puzzle in our lineup for 2016.

"We are really confident with this lineup, flusha will take over the in-game leading role and we are ready to really really work hard again to be back at the top."

Dennis "dennis" Edman joins fnatic just two weeks after helping G2 to secure their best result ever, a 3rd-4th place finish at the Cluj major.

dennis signs for fnatic

According to a statement issued by G2 on their website, Edman asked to be allowed to join fnatic, in which he will reunite with former LGB teammates Johansson and Kajbjer.

"I feel honoured to have been given this opportunity," he told fnatic's website. "I understand if some of my fans might think this is a selfish decision, when we’ve just started to achieve good results with Gamers2.

"However, playing with this lineup has always been the dream for me.

"It’s really a dream come true, and I am more ready than ever to put in as much time as possible to bring this lineup back to the top where it belongs!"

fnatic will make their first appearance with the new roster at the FACEIT League Stage 3 finals, which will take place under the wings of DreamHack Winter, from November 26-28.

With these changes, fnatic now have:

Robin "flusha" Rönnquist
Jesper "JW" Wecksell
