UPDATE: As of the end of June 2017, Moirai's servers have been taken offline. Unfortunately, this means that the game is no longer available to play. According to the developers, this can be blamed on the fact that the game was always free, yet maintaining the server cost money and time, and people have repeatedly hacked the server, causing even more time to be wasted. Thanks, losers, for being a large part of why such an interesting experiment/game was taken down. RIP Moirai. If only there were an "offline" or "local" version of the game that didn't rely on a server over the Internet, or a way for people to run their own servers...

Anyway, what follows is my original review of Moirai:

A short eight- to twelve-minute game, maybe fifteen if you're really trying to explore, that will really f*** with you. At a price of zero, this is one experiment that horror fans should not miss. This game is best played with absolutely *NO* prior knowledge of it, so do yourself a favor and just play it first before spoiling it by reading reviews, and avoid YouTube videos at all costs until you've seen its ending firsthand. Trust me, it is in your best interest. So before you go on to the next paragraph... you know what to do; this review will still be here when you get back.

On the other hand, after playing through it, watching other people's reactions posted on YouTube can be quite amusing, but again...do not do this before actually experiencing the game for yourself. I have played through the game several times now and the fresh "answers" (to avoid giving too much info away) keep me coming back. Every playthrough is unique yet the same, and some are better than others based on the "answers" other players gave who came before you. Cryptic? I hope so, because this could spoil the entire game!

[Potential spoilers; don't read any further until completing the game:]

I keep trying to come up with clever "answers" myself, and anticipate the "Epilogue" e-mail that I receive determining my fate. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed in some of the outcomes, but I will not let that detract from the overall score of the game; after all, it is basically a fresh game every time it is played, often with amusing outcomes.

You can't change other people's actions, but in my experience, I have been killed more often than let go, no matter how neutral or positive, amusing or even intentionally cheerfully funny my responses were (ie. mocking the very basic blueprint of a story that the game provides to leave to the player's imagination).

Still, it is amusing. This "game" is effectively an eerie but clever social experiment in disguise, and one that I recommend any psychological horror fan to try out (even if, by design, you can only be shocked once). I just wish some of the people playing it were a bit more mature and/or had a sense of humor, instead of every f***ing time ignorantly and blindly selecting KILL HIM!!! Still, again, it's a great idea, a refreshing experiment, and a short but sweet game.
