TL;DR - If you like Grim Dawn and want an alternative way to grind mobs for loot, pick this up.

It's an add on to the great game Grim Dawn!

So what is it exactly?

The crucible adds arena wave battles with increasing prizes and challenge, 150 total. You'll get slammed with all sorts of monsters from the game as well as heros, bosses, and even nemesis! Every 10 rounds you can "cash out" for your prizes or keep going to try to earn more. If you die, well you still get something but it's nothing like winning.

Let's be clear, this is an alternative to farming mobs in Grim Dawn and really boils down to StabFest 2000. You get points as you clear the arena depending on how fast you do each wave as well as tokens to spend on buffs, defenses, etc to help your survival rate. It's multiplayer friendly too so you can drag a friend with you if you want some company.

Is it fun? Eh. Depends. It's obviously very shallow and very linear because it is just wave defense but it's a nice break on occasion for some non-stop carnage and truly epic battles and "changes things up" a bit from the normal grind. I do wish it was only a few dollars as $4.99 seems a bit high for what it is but it is a small indie dev and I've gotten so many hours out of the main game I had no issue handing over the bills. You might catch it on sale at some point or bundled with Grim Dawn itself if you don't already own the main game. Rumor is the expansion pack [Act 5!] will have a "bundle" with the game, this DLC, and that new DLC but unconfirmed at time of this review.

Great little game if you like JRPGs and a whole lot of inside jokes around the genre. I played EBF4 first and enjoyed it quite a bit so this was a nice little bonus to see EBF3 come to Steam. :)

Sadly no controller support but hey, can't beat the price!

Early Access Review - 1/11/15

Space Engineers is a fun game on the outside and very complex on the inside. While many compare it to Minecraft, I think the comparison ends at "uses blocks" and "is in the same genre" as that is really about the it of it. The game uses grids to determine "groups" of blocks into ships [small/large] as well as space stations! You can piece together a ship and actually fly it complete with physics and block damage if you say... accidently ram the ship into an asteroid at full thrust.

The game offers both creative mode and survival but, as of this writing, survival mode is still very much a work in progress. The two keys to survival currently is that your suit has a power limit such that you can't just stand outside forever [but it's easy to charge back up] and the fact that you have to actually get the materials to build the items you want. Items are built in stages and require a variety of components that you weld together as long as they are in your inventory. Larger objects require far more weight [yes, these blocks have volume and weight!] but you can built construction ships with multiple welders [and waaaay more storage] to take the place of you and your blowtorch. Most items have construction stages so you can see them "progress" from a steel frame to a working block as you apply the parts. The building works very well and deconstruction works similiar, except you use a grinder and you GET items instead of place items such that ships and other things can be recycled.

But wait, there's more! Cargo ships and derelects litter the universe free for the taking. Some have guns and will try to aggressively kill you, but free none-the-less!

Creative mode on the other hand is what you would expect. Unlimited resources and all blocks are fully built when placed. Add to this the glorious symmetry mode which allows you to mirror X/Y/Z axis [user selectable!] and you have, imho, one of the best creative building modes around. Most blocks can be rotated in 90 degree increments so a simple ramp can be turned in any direction or even upside down. For those who like to build, the benefits of this are readily apparent! The other dynamic Keen has introduced is that of copy/paste and blueprints. Once you create your super ship of doom you can copy it to the clipboard and make it into a blueprint. This blueprint can be pasted into the world as many times as you like in Creative, turned into a Workshop item to share with other users, or even attached to a projector in a survival world to project a hologram of the design and allow the player to weld all the pieces together! This is an amazing system and works very well.

Finally, this game has stellar Steam Workshop support. Aside from being able to blueprint ships and stations to share, there is also very solid modding support and the modding scene for Space Engineers is already going strong with no additions and changes to the game including change game rules [like max speed] and adding entirely new blocks and entities to the game. Keen does a great job of providing a whole slew of things thus far and this only expands it further and compliments their work.

Overall, this is a wonderful game and easily worth the price. The only caveat I have is for hardcore survival players, you might get bored with the current state as it is really quite easy to stay alive and gather resources to the point of having a massive surplus of everything. This is a heavy WIP and Keen notes they have many plans for the future to enhance this area. Given their update history [often!] I would expect to see some serious changes in the coming months. Keen has been great at updating the game and listening to the playerbase so I'd advise checking the updates page and the forums for the current state of the game as it changes [usually for the bettter] often on a weekly basis.

Not just another Minecraft clone!

Within the sandbox genre it's often easy to simply say something is a Minecraft clone but the team at Playful has something pretty special here. Does it have blocks and you mine them? Yes but so does every other sandbox game. The quality and variety of crafting, block types, etc is very high and they keep adding more things as they progress through alpha.

It is in very early alpha right now but there is a lot of polish on the game. It's stable, it runs and looks great. Textures are high quality, lighting is actually legit [think shaders if you've played MC], and overall it's a pretty solid product.

The main thing folks are griping about on the older reviews is the pay store since this is set to be a free to play game. In the next patch they are removing the store and retuning the whole thing. No more paying for craft timers to instantly expire. In fact, they are chopping the crafting timers down significantly which takes care of my only real gripe. The devs have a solid plan of not making it into a "pay to win" game and keeping it more legit like League of Legends where you can get/earn everything just by playing the game for the most part. Shop will be cosmetic items and the like. Oh and the devs? Great forum participation and very active.

Oh and servers? You get free server hosting! FIre up the game and you can make your own worlds and invite your friends in. It's very easy to do and doesn't require a networking degree. :)

I'll update this review again later in development but as of right now I give it a big thumbs up!

As someone who's been dealing with depression my whole life... I can sum this up in two words. Spot On.

Incredibly accuracte to the thoughts, feelings, and sorts of things you go through when you have severe depression. It's not a game and it's not fun by any means, but it's a very well written piece of work and worth sharing if you have an "Alex" in your life that you're unable to explain things to. Maybe this can help.

Bravo to the team.

Gnomoria is a sim/sandbox/survival game where you command a bunch of gnomes to do things. Honestly that about sums it up.

Some quick good/bad/ugly breakdown!

Good
- Fun game!
- Complete sandbox experience where you can do pretty much anything
- You can disable the awful music :)
- Lots and lots of options for how you want your game set up. Lots of mountains? No mountains? Hate golems? Turn em off. Etc. Gold star for custom games and difficulties.

Bad
- No tutorial. It's your standard indie game "hey go read a wiki or something" start up. Thankfully, there are a lot of good guides both here on Steam and elsewhere so I recommend checking them out before diving in.
- Graphics are a bit dated. I know this is very qualitative but they just don't have any zing to them. They aren't bad, but they aren't great. If you dig the sprites and the retro look, no complaints.
- Music is awful. There, I said it. Thankfully you can turn it off. Unless you're that one guy who just has to have the game music on no matter what, you'll be fine.

Ugly
- My gnomes were slaughtered by a Honey Badger. He gave no ♥♥♥♥♥.

Overall. Buy it! It's a fun game. It reminds me a lot of Dwarf Fortress but with graphics. :)
