After giving this game a good shot, going through the main big temples and collecting 20 fish and 460ish coins, I can't say I had fun.

While I absolutely adore the stellar look and atmosphere of a cartoony yet grounded world, how the ui is just to well designed and full of life, how tackle's animations just flows super well and gorgeously animated and momentum within the dna of the movement is great! My main issues are sadly the fundamental base of the game and its overall level design methodology.

I think this all starts in the basic movement. It's absolutely not a bad 3d platformer and it does control like a charm, but it isn't expressive (like it was said in the kickstarter video). Not that a 3d platformer needs to have a vast moveset to be fun (ei spongebob bfbb, de blob, jak & daxter 1) as these games succeeds with something simple but interesting ideas.

Now, my main issue here is the level design and how they chose to go about using the basic moveset within it. From the bat, the moment to moment gameplay isn't too great. You mainly stick with the same vine jumps, bar swings and wall runs which is interesting the first time, but feels a lot more samey later on. What drives a lot of my frustrations the is that these gameplay setpieces are entirely linear. Linear games isn't something that is automatically bad. Early Crash & Mario Galaxy 2 are great at making tight linear gameplay work well. But here, ideas feel repetitive and overstay themselves for far too long. On top of that, failing any part of it brings you back way to far. Even the smaller houses that you can find in the overworld (ex: the trampoline / seesaw / first rail part) can be such a drag to go through as the game asks you perfection. Games that asks perfection exists and can be so much fun (Jump king & Getting over it), but they keep you entertained by having extremely tight controls and recontextualize those simple mechanics in interesting ways (Slants to ice in jump king & wall climbs by flinging your hammer side to side to staying on the rim of one wall). This game has tight gameplay, but to tight enough to warrant perfection. The wall runs / jumps are awful at this. Having wall runs depending on the angle that you hit the wall, (ex: rope jumps into wall runs into a jump) which doesnt work all the time, wall jumps between three walls sometimes flings you down if you don't hit every angle perfectly and jumping out of a wall, they all don't work well to warrant perfection and worst of all, it's not fun to do and overcome.

On a more personal note, I am a dev too and worked on a open driving platformer (Raw Nerve) and had the same issue of making the game too hard and repetitive set in a more open world, but the setpieces were linear and dull to go through. So here is my proposal interms of making the game more fun with what you have as a base still be there! Make the game have different interweaved paths. What makes a 3d platformer fun to me is expressing yourself through its controls within the bounds of the level. By adding 2 linear paths that meshes together, you get more ways to experience the level and replaying parts that you failed doesn't feel as punishing because you can always try another way. That's what i did for the game and it worked like a charm! ALSO Try adding more of the fling balls, the blue fling fans, some moving platforms here and there, use more of that momentum (you can use sonic speed pads if you want)!!!! Those where my favourite parts of the game and its a shame there isn't more of it!

All this to say, you have so much potential with what you have and I hope you get to rethink the game so it can be the best that it can be!
