The environmental story telling, the gameplay, the art, the characters, the story itself; this is one of the best games I've ever played.

Response to the dev and TL;DR at bottom.

The game seems to have a good bit of mechanical depth, the small bit of writing I saw was fine, I kind of like the oppressive feeling of the world around me, there is something fun about skirting around the town and panicking in real life when I see a V or several Zs, and I *love* the 3D effect of the ASCII graphics.

But it lacks something I find crucial in this day and age, and that is the ability to save. Not save as in save and reload, but any sort of saving. There is no escape menu so there is no quitting out of the game except for alt-f4, and if you do quit you lose everything as there is also no auto saving either. There is suicide, but if I'd rather not die but instead leave then pick back up where I left off I'm screwed. The dev has said that this is intended and that he doesn't intend to add any sort of save system at the moment.

I just hate that I feel like I can't progress very far without losing everything because either I don't have time or I don't *want* to put in the time needed to get past the endlessly repeating the first day over and over. Simply put, real life has priority.

If the total lack of a save system and all that entails doesn't bother you, then definitely get this. But personally I can't recommend this.

In response to the dev: I feel like you're either missing the point about users prioritizing real life over longer play sessions, or are being willfully ignorant of it. You can continue having the experience you're trying to create without hurting it or the narrative while still allowing the user to save before quiting. An example is have save and exiting tied to bonfires. Call it "snoozing" or something and when a player loads back in have there be a good chance that there is a monster there that they then HAVE to deal with. Make it a brutal trade-off.

In the early to mid game it perfectly captures that "ohshitohshitohshitohshit" feeling, that sense of dread and fear that you might not have enough resources and yet barely squeak by.

But then the difficulty curve just keeps increasing at such a fast rate that even with cheats it's frustratingly hard to near impossible to beat. It's an otherwise great game badly marred by a horribly unbalanced mid to late game. I know I'm not alone in this as YouTuber Ross Scott mirrors my thoughts.

This game is okay. Get it if you want to know what happens after The Fall Part 1

Pros

* It's longer. I'd say the story content of the game is at least 2x as long as Part 1.

* The voice acting is still as good as the original but this time there are a *lot* more characters, all voiced really well. There was never one character who's VA was at all bad.

* Speaking of the VAs, there are some good characters in here.

* The story is good, but not as good as Part 1. There are some things that feel forced on the writers' parts, but not super forced.

* Combat requires more skill and is more varied in that you now have to dodge attacks via jumping and moving, as well as an entirely different form of combat that reminds me of One Finger Death Punch (and is, imo, the best combat in the games yet)

* Game almost always runs at my monitor's refresh rate of 60Hz and there is very, very little load for me (but the game is installed onto a SSD, so take that as you will).

Cons

* For whatever reason, this game makes my R9 390 heat up like I'm playing GTA V at max settings, despite the game not look as good or detailed.

* The combat, while more varied, can be super annoying. Your ammo and your jump ability are tied to the same (recharging) meter, so if you shoot too much, you can't jump for a short bit of time and can end up getting hammered as a result. *Very* frustrating.

* While there are some smart point & click puzzles in the game, they are far, far out numbered by some really bad, nonesensical, BS ones. Like others have said, I ended up having to use a guide for a bunch of them. Honestly, the puzzles were almost never fun and just felt like a roadblock to the rest of the game.

* The clumsy, slow "highlight with your flashlight to select" mechanic is back from Part 1 and is *worse* because now the light follows an invisible cursor, so if you walk past your cursor Arid will turn 180. This is extremely annoying.

* God dang it, give us the ability to run! You end up needing to backtrack a lot and I probably spent over an hour just slowly back tracking.

I love the atmosphere, music, voice acting, and story presented in this game, but I have come across several bugs that cause the game to crash, at least one of which makes it so I can not continue playing the game. I emailed the developer (his email address is provided in the text manual that can be found in the game's directory) but he just blew me off. I've tried contacting Wadjet Eye Games both via their forums and their contact email, but never heard anything from them.

The developer doesn't care and the publisher doesn't seem to either.

I really want to recommend this game, just as much as I really want to love it, but I can't. These crashes are infuriating and the lack of help from the people behind the game is very off putting.

Save yourself the frustration and money, don't buy this game.

Edit: I was able to fix the crashes using the "ags_shell.dll" file from version 1.0 of the game, with out help from the devs. I still can't recommend buying it until this is fixed officially.

Great, intense, fun, hard game. I rarely recommend a game and this one is completely worth it.
