Cannot say enough good things about Chronicles of the Wolf! Had an awesome time playing through this game. If you enjoy retro style graphics combined with castlevania-like gameplay, you will definitely enjoy this one. The game starts off very side-scrollery but turns into a full blown metroidvania when you get about a third of the way through the game or so. It’s good to note, this title doesn’t hold your hand at all, which can be a turn-off for some players. Hard save checkpoints (dying results in lost progress since last hard save), no map markers (as of right now), and vague puzzle elements to get you to really explore, think, and put two & two together. It features five different endings depending on decisions that you make along the way, and one locked behind a secret boss. I loved grinding my character’s stats, hitting the gold cap, finding all items in the game, and filling out the bestiary along my journey. I really hope Migami Games puts out another one like this…I really appreciate the game code and look forward to future projects. Now, time to do a run on my Steam Deck!

With Stellar Blade finally coming to PC, I was able to give this game a try and was really surprised at the quality of this port! Really fun and pretty easy to obtain all achievements with this one, a lot of missables but using a guide solves that. I personally really enjoyed the story/setting, and had a blast uncovering the truth of Earth’s downfall. Combat was my favorite part of the game, with you being able to mix and match different attacks together to form sick combos. The soundtrack is top tier. All three endings were cool to see, and obviously playing as Eve was a great design choice. The fishing mini-game is killer and so were all the different puzzles that you run into along the way. Just a solid experience as a whole that never became stale as I scoured the world looking for collectibles.

Nightreign is a reimagining of Elden Ring’s core gameplay design which takes us into a unique roguelike setting with battle royale elements mixed in too. I buy everything Fromsoft, so I knew this was a must-play for me, and the journey to obtain all achievements wasn’t a hard one, but it can be a little frustrating. In my opinion, communication is key in a multiplayer game, and with no voice chat, it can be hit or miss pairing up with random players to embark on a ~45 minute journey to defeat multiple bosses and strategically navigate the map. If you have a friend or two that you can queue with, it will make for a great time as you go on runs, level up, and take down nightlords. It is a simple, yet sweet gameplay loop, that can become stale if you aren’t pushed by the challenge achievements of winning with every character, hitting max level, completing all events, and defeating every boss. I look forward to the DLC so I can revisit this in the future!

Very fun if you’re in the mood for a sandbox police sim-style game! Set in the 1980’s, you take the role of a rookie cop fresh out of the academy and are sent to the front lines to combat gang activity. Complete tasks like writing tickets, arresting bad guys, and gathering evidence to upgrade your character and unlock new weapons to use on the streets. This game took me back to Lethal Weapon/The Wire as I patrolled the city and worked with detectives to take down gang kingpins. The destructible environments are an awesome feature, and I had a blast doing the street races and time trials. Not a hard game to 100% by any means, but a good time that satisfies the GTA craving for the time being.

Avowed is a big world split into a few different areas for you to explore as you progress the story. Featuring a plethora of collectable items you’ll need to pick up along your journey, the Living Lands has a newfound threat of a spreading plague. You take the role of an envoy, sent to investigate this threat and bring stabilization to the area as you uncover the mystery of the region. Make choices with actual consequences that shape the world around you, and the people in it. Multiple endings make a second playthrough worthwhile, and Path of the Damned difficulty was a memorable experience to say the least. Prepare to scour every corner of each map to gather tons of different items for the achievements, and save a ton to avoid miss-able achievements! I had a pretty fun time with this one, enjoyed playing as a Warrior with a militaristic outlook. The story started to grab me about a third of the way through the game, but after all is said and done, happy to add this one to my 100% collection.

If you’re looking for a nice linear single-player experience with a good story and awesome music, South of Midnight is perfect for you. Not a hard 100% by any means, but it was a good 15 hour journey where you play as a girl from the Deep South who is brought into a southern gothic reality. You’ll encounter all kinds of mythical creatures based on real life legends & tales. Even though combat is simple, and the gameplay loop is kind of repetitive, the story keeps you going along your path. Explore each area too the fullest to find the collectables, and enjoy the setting of the world around you. My favorite parts of the game were no-hitting the bosses for those achievements, the beautiful stop-motion graphics, and the killer soundtrack.

This game absolutely lived up to the expectations I had set for it. Currently my personal game of the year top contender, and definitely a must try if you enjoy these types of games. Combat is super crisp, music is amazing, and the bosses are memorable. Probably one of the more difficult souls-likes out there until you get your build set and master your weapon. Bosses are extremely fun to learn, and give an adrenaline rush similar to other well-known staples in the genre. Ultimately went with a moonlight spear build, but all weapons are enjoyable to use and can totally change the way the game feels. If you want to snag all achievements in one playthrough; play on Normal difficulty, don’t use summons, and make sure to do all bonus missions and grab all collectables as you go through the game.

Definitely need to go back and play the previous spider-man games now! Hopefully performance issues are fixed soon for everyone running into issues. I experienced a few crashes and frame rate drops, but nothing major. Really enjoyed the main story, but side missions were not as exciting in my opinion. Combat was definitely a strong point for me. Mixing up abilities, using gadgets to combo them together, and then executing finishers felt really good. Boss battles were killer, and customization is off the charts. The map is beautifully crafted and I found myself enjoying just swinging through New York (especially at night). This isn’t a tough game to get all achievements for, but you will need to do pretty much everything on your first playthrough before beating the game again on NG+. Really glad I picked this one up, and I’m looking forward to see which villains we get to take on next time!

The combat and story are my two favorite things about this awesome metroidvania! This one is a little more on the easier side in my opinion but it still makes for a fun time. Love the art style and had a blast uncovering the story. You take the role of a demon hunter named Shin who strikes a partnership with Lux, a demon with the ability to shapeshift into a sword. Boss designs are cool and the map was easy to keep track of with the ability to place markers. There is enemy collision, and you’ll want to save often at checkpoints to make sure you do not lose progress. Loved the variety of weapons and all of the abilities that you can utilize in combat. After mastering the controls and leveling up a few times to unlock abilities, the game really shines. I’m a fan of collectables in games, and the puzzle pieces were extremely fun to hunt down as well!

Love games like these! Gives an Enter the Gungeon feel with a wild west twist. You battle through 5 different stages, meeting a boss at the end of each. The last boss was my favorite, and the rifle was my favorite weapon in the game. The sound effects are cool and the pixel art style looks killer. The gameplay loop is not what I expected going into this one. When you die, you start back at the beginning of the stage you were on, which makes progressing through the game very easy. It’d be cool to see more stages/bosses added in the future but overall, a fun time! The price is pretty good. The game is quite short, especially if you’re pretty good at bullet hell shooters, but that’s what the game presents itself as. There is a timer to incentivize doing multiple runs in order to obtain your best time which adds replay value, and this game is a nice one to relax and enjoy on the Steam Deck.
