Don't buy.

It doesn't work. Simple as.

You basically buy it on Steam but you still need to make an Ubisoft account and register there and do all that unnecessary, inane ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. That is in my personal opinion NOT a good business practice. Ubisoft Connect is notoriously known for being ♥♥♥♥ and generally disliked. Ubisoft Connect is a bugged mess and is REQUIRED in order to play this game. That is where you encounter the main problem. You launch the game through Steam and then it launches Ubisoft Connect. After that Ubisoft Connect just keeps loading and loading and keeps asking you to login to your Ubisoft account. I heard that is the same problem across the board for all Ubisoft titles bought on Steam.

I looked up fixes online and none of them seem to work. How and why are Ubisoft/Steam selling a product that doesn't work is just beyond me.

Just do your self a favor and don't engage in these scummy business practices. Avoid Ubisoft. I certainly wouldn't be buying anything from Ubisoft anytime soon. They are known and have a history as being totally incompetent idiots. Really reminds me of those Electronic Arts folks but that's a whole other story.

Anyway about the game: It's the best one in the series. Far Cry 3 is a masterpiece in its own right. There's no need for me to talk much about it. I just came here to revisit it and experience nostalgia, but unfortunately that's just not doable.

Find another way to play this game and definitely DO play this game. The game itself is a 9/10 and I really do recommend it. Sadly I simply can NOT give a positive review on Steam for something that doesn't work.

Here is why:

While Fallout: New Vegas is a great game, in my humble opinion the best in the series - it simply has way too many issues to make the experience at the very least enjoyable.

CRASHES:

Crashes are very frequent, and by very frequent I mean VERY frequent. Can't give you an exact answer but sometimes its every 5 minutes, sometimes 20. Now, that is if you even manage to launch the game because at times I couldn't even manage to do that.

I looked up a fix online. Everyone seems to recommend NVAC and Fallout: New Vegas 4GB Patcher - mods/fixes that allegedly ''fix'' the game. For me, personally - They didn't do ♥♥♥♥. Yes. You heard me right, even mods can't fix this broken mess of a game. They appear to be outdated. Thats the most frustrating part.

I have never experienced this before. I played other, outdated games, and a simple fix or a patch you download from some random github link is sufficient. This game? Its different. It doesn't work

CAN'T LOAD SAVES/INFINITE LOADING SCREEN:

Hypothetically, you get the game to run and it doesnt crash as soon as you start playing here is what happens. You progress through the game and you, being paranoid that the game is going to crash or just being a normal human being you save the game.

Congratulations, you most likely will not be able to load the save. Loading any save has a high chance of it making you stuck in a loading screen or just straight up freezing your whole PC. It straight up corrupts. This lost me a lot of progress, having me to revert to an older save which just might actually load.

Overall - half of my playtime in this game is spent trying to run it and not actually playing it.

GAMEPLAY:

I remember playing this when I was real young. I loved the RPG elements and basically building your character. Never got too far to actually see it affect gameplay but it does, and thats really cool.

That said, younger me wasn't aware that most of the gameplay is actually running around the wasteland and fulfilling at times menial quests. Running in this game is awful. My grandma can run better and faster than a guy I purposely made to be an athlete. Okay, to be fair the character is jogging but my point still stands. He/She is so slow and sluggish.

The gameplay variety makes up for it. You have a lot of action and calm set pieces. You can approach missions and complete them in different ways. Thats all cool and to be expected from a Bethesda game. I must praise them for that.

I can excuse the main character being slow, its bad but not as bad as aforementioned crashes, getting the game to run and save system issues.

Graphics are kinda dated, but they have their charm.

SUMMARY:

Summary I guess? A really good game, ruined by its age and lost support. As I said, many people will pick this as their best Fallout game. Just wish it would work normally. A real shame it doesn't. All my problems with this game are on the technological side. Makes me feel like an actual genuine ♥♥♥♥ for giving a negative review, but for a game that just doesn't work I really can not give a thumbs up recommended review.

EDIT: With a lot of effort and all possible game fixing mods the game just BARELY works, and calling it ,,working'' is being very generous. Not sure if its worth the effort to fix it, maybe if you really love this game and want to play it. Even though I love this game, its still not worth a positive review.

Unfair, grindy and pay to win. Can't recommend.
