You wanted to play a Halo campaign? Sike! You're playing Far Cry.

Halo was at it's best with focused open missions: Halo CE's Silent Cartographer, Halo 2's Uprising and Great Journey, Halo 3's The Arc, ODST's Uplift Reserve, I could go on. Instead Zeta Halo feels vacant and soulless. The "missions" in the campaign feel hastily scraped together from the open world, forced into the game as an afterthought, and the open world is oddly barren and restricting, with the utility of vehicles being restricted to preset dirt paths and wherever the killzone is in the sky.

The story isn't anything to write home to, it arguably is not offensive either but that makes it upsettingly forgettable. The story had no greater agency on the wider universe, I feel I have accomplished nothing after the campaign. With this said, 343 has improved their ability to write some of their characters. The weapon and the pilot are both good accompanying characters to the Master Chief, but neither add anything to the universe's story like the Arbiter or added charm to the experience like Sgt. Johnson. Still, it's an improvement and I commend the writers on this front. The Banished are...there kinda. They seemed to just be a "Red Covenant" character wise, but they were engaging to fight and felt like competent opponents. Otherwise this experience from a story component was cyclical, I feel I'm at the same point I started the campaign on, and neither the journey nor the destination captured my attention. All of this, however, is mute since 343 didn't attempt to clean up the mess they made with Halo 5's story. Instead sweeping it under the rug to play with their new Banished toys from Halo Wars 2. That leaves me hurt, as someone who has kept up with the story, even if it was at a rough spot to begin with.

Is it fun to mess around an open world with Halo's rock solid weapon sandbox? Absolutely, for like half an hour. Does it sting knowing 343's narrative fumbled again? Well it stings less than the first time but yes. This campaign had the potential, but it was squandered and turned into another mediocre open-world void.

(Far) Cry about it.

Take me back to 2007...please...I guess this is close enough.

Just as good as it was on my parents desktop. This game is the definition of nostalgia.

11/11 would pay $11 a month again.

Titanfall 2 is probably my favorite FPS this decade for it's fun and innovative combat. I could go on and on about this game's movement mechanics, the gunplay and enemy engagement, the fluid transition between pilot and titan gameplay, and I wouldn't even get to touch on the game's campaign. Yes, the Titanfall game has a campaign, and fun one too. Whenever this game goes on sale I always recommend it, but if you are a fan of parkour games like Ghostrunner, or are a fan of movement arena shooters I can't recommend this enough.

I adore Halo. It is a franchise I grew up with and played for over a decade. These stories may not be as amazing or world breaking as I remember, but there is something fascinating about the world Bungie created, and 343 has taken under its wing. From the beautiful, but slightly dated, environments and the amazing soundtrack that still holds to this day. Not to mention the timeless FPS defining gameplay (I know Doom/Quake/Half Life/Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare did it first, but Halo revolutionized the console FPS) and you have six enjoyable campaigns and a surplus of amazing multiplayer experiences.

I am glad to see the games come to the PC platform, and the quality of life improvements that came with this port have been amazing. Halo with an adjustable FOV slider justified getting the game for a second time, three if we include the original releases. Unfortunately, this Collection has been struggling with some quality issues, each update seems to fix some things and undo some others. While unfortunate, the porting team has been incredibly transparent about the process and are relatively quick to fix bugs.

I obviously have bias, so an impartial review could never come out of me. I can not recommend the collection enough. To me, six games for $40 is an absolute steal. But to others, it isn't justified. Best part of the Collection is that you can choose which games to purchase. Hate Halo 4? Me too. No need to buy it. Think Reach caused the downward spiral the Halo franchise is currently facing as we speak, and hate the thought of buying it? Don't! You see what I mean about not being impartial, I'm speaking praises about a purchasing mechanic. I am awful at this reviewing thing.

I hope my incoherent ramblings encouraged you to try out the Master Chief Collection. If this is your first time playing Halo, welcome! To those returning after being offline on the 360 for half a decade, welcome back.
