Game is very unpolished and nearly unplayable. I played on hosted servers with Admins to help with problems. Only buy it if you really must build spaceships and fight them. It's a worse Space Engineers but it has things to shoot at.

Game abandoned. The first 3 months were legendary. Glad to have played and sad to have to walk away when Devs gave up. They posted about updates coming but nothing to show or updates to the game.

Without a doubt this is the best game on Steam. The modders have gone crazy adding in entire DLCs of content.

Do not use any mods on 1st playthrough, you will ruin the game for yourself and you will forever miss out on the wonder that is vanilla Subnautica.

It's pretty good, really grindy to get yourself started. The character movement and pathing is terrible. You must be able to master sprint+crouch jumping (sprint only toggles on/off). The game feels like it ends right when you get settled into your home. You finally get things the way you want and then it's over.


I don't think I would recommend it because it's very short and feels unpolished especially in character movement. The audio is also quiet bad and frustrating to hear/utilize. The lighting items are an absolute joke, you can't light up your airship any more than the default metal ceiling lights which are a dark glow. Building the airship is a pain because you have to rebuild your existing ship while keeping all your stuff inside.

I would recommend it for the graphics, style, design (mostly).

Actual gameplay is mid, you're mostly grinding to collect resources. You get the cool items like sprinkler/Large water tank right at the end so you never use them. I spent at least a day exploring without doing the main quest and still got everything late it felt like.

There are still annoying bugs that will make you need to reload a save.

[Edit] The issues are still present in the release version of the game as they are design decisions.

It's pretty clunky and hard to enjoy.

Best Free Idle and I Idle

The real game is on the big 100 player multiplayer servers. Single player is a blast too. Best game under $100. Mods make it much better.
