At first, I wouldn't have fun playing this game because of how overwhelming the game has to offer. From over 100 heroes to play, learning their abilities and the optimal items is definitely a very steep learning curve for newcomer, especially those who has little to no experience in MOBAS. Not only the heroes, but also the strategies, such as laning, rotations, when to get Roshan, pushing towers, etc.

But for me, personally, I have played a lot of League of Legends and decided to play DOTA 2 just so that I don't have to play one MOBA all the time. And the transition is so far smooth. The in-game tutorial is a good start to learn or refresh the basic mechanics. What made the transition a lot easier is the guide system. Here you can use builds that other players have made, which includes items to buy, and even tells you what ability to level up. This cuts the learning to only the hero abilities and the macro strategies on the map.

For newcomers to MOBA, play bot games to familiarise yourself with the game, and while there are people in this community that are "toxic", don't worry about that, focus on your own plays. After playing a bunch of normal games, you'll improve and that is what many players want to do.
