this game ruined my life

buy it

in a sea of ten thousand generic open world survival/crafting sims, deep field/playstack games absolutely shine with abiotic factor. one of those games where you look at the clock and realise three or four hours have passed by while it has only felt like half an hour. i don't often stumble into games that i can't wait to come home from work to play. there is so much to do, so much to explore, and the crafting and progression system feels really good. the map design is complex but not to the point of tedium - when you find those shortcuts it's very rewarding. the voice acting is surprisingly good too. i also deeply appreciate the number of QOL features that are already implemented in this game despite it being in early access.

so far my only complaint has to do with one of the traits - Narcoleptic. it could use some tweaking or at least should give you way more points to work with. seriously, i really really wish i hadn't chosen it when i made my character. i am not kidding when i say i cannot go out exploring without bringing a cot or a bed with me and have died a number of times due to forgetting to bring one. i've largely gotten used to it but it is super irritating and inconvenient having to sleep every five minutes or literally die and constantly fighting off having reduced speed/stam/etc due to tiredness.

that aside, this game has been a total blast and i'm super happy to have stumbled across it. if you are a fan of the genre then i think you will definitely enjoy this game, especially with friends.
